Yeah… Been using for some time now…. Since May. The only problems I seem to have with it is the support that FCP has. Yes…. I have FCP 5.1.2 and the latest drivers from Sony but if for some reason I want to say composite soemthing in AfterEffects and do my final render in the XDCAM HD codec…. Well, let’s just say… it sucks! When I import back into FCP the data rate is on 2.3 mb/sec, which I don’t think is correct and the video quality is awful. But this is just dealing with the codec and FCP.
Otherwise, the format is stunning!

Well, my experience has always been that you loose the render files in the area you are working, which is understandable, but now, we are loosing throughout the entire timelines on occassions. That’s what I’m bringing up.

I think LaCie has started offering this somewhat recently.
I bring this up because I have a few drives that are about three years old that have died and they only have a one year warranty on them. They were the original D2 drives, not the newer three port drives. These only had fw400 on them. And the Porsche drives only have a one year on them.

All true, Walter. But I have noticed the smae concept without changing the presets under FCP 5.1.2.
I am working on a feature with my producer and if you make any changes to the timeline, sometimes FCP forgets all of the render files. This only started with FCP 5.1.2. Frustrating but the project is getting large and had to be split up into small chunks to aleviate some of the ills of this version of FCP.
Either way… you’re right about this situation but it is occuring with other workflows, too.

Good point, Boyd. I’ll do just that next time I’m in a pinch.
As for the Shake forum…. There’s not much activitiy there so I thought I would cross-post this time to get a response. I know there are many many talented people out her on the FCP forum that also use Shake. I guess the Shake guys have more on their plate than they can handle to answer basic Shake question… I can understand that completely!

Most LaCie drives only have a one year warraty BUT its worth the shot to check it out.

You are aware that FCP can make the indiviual clips for you when you digitize. You can select DV Tape detection and it will create the maker and subclips for you. Then you could normalize the entire clip and the subclips will have that normalization applied to them.
Why do you need to normalize anyway? Is the footage audio that low? If so, there are other ways to the same thing as a normalize in Soundtrack right inside of FCP.

That sounds logical, indeed, but it will be very time consuming for to do this. That is why I mentioned the above.

No… If you apply your normalize to the entire clip, your subclips and their time changes won’t affect your audio clips.

It works fine with the 1.0 version of the software. Its the new 1.1 version that I can’t export. Its telling me that my sequence is 2 channel 16-bit when I have selected my sequence to be 8 channel 16-bit.
I reinstalled the 1.0 version and everything works just as it always did, BUT I really need the features of the 1.1 software.
