    Hey gang…

I’m coming to you with a basic function this time. We don’t do lots of effects but I do have these needs at this time of year while I am building new show opens and closes. I don’t have much time to really learn the software as I should. I know FCP like the back of my hand BUT Motion and Shake…. that’s another story. I just got Shake with my new system and have no earthly idea of how to use it at all. I do know that it has a very steep learning curve, of which I don’t have that kind of time right now.

I just want to know how you can slo-mo video in Motion or Shake so that I can get the best results. FCP does an ok job with somewhat still video but when the video is less than perfect, FCP falls flat on its face. Can anyone describe to me in detail how to do this in either program?

    Wayne,

Here’s a link to a Cow tutorial just under 15 minutes that hopefully will get you on the right track in Shake.

You may want to get the Apple Pro Training Series (APTS) book “Shake 4: Professional Compositing and Visual Effects” by Marco Paolini. While the APTS books are an excellent method of learning the different applications, they also serve as mini tutorials on different features in the applications – just do a chapter or lesson relevant to your immediate need. I often use them as references guides for things I know how to do, but don’t do often enough to remember off the top of my head.

Thanks! Mine is already on order BUT when the boss says he wants something, he wants it NOW. I’m sure you know how that is…

    I hear that!

Don’t forget that you can use the search feature here to look up stuff – it’s been a lifesaver for me in a pinch. Also, the Cow has an Apple Shake forum that you can post to.

Good point, Boyd. I’ll do just that next time I’m in a pinch.

As for the Shake forum…. There’s not much activitiy there so I thought I would cross-post this time to get a response. I know there are many many talented people out her on the FCP forum that also use Shake. I guess the Shake guys have more on their plate than they can handle to answer basic Shake question… I can understand that completely!

On the other hand, if everyone posts all their questions about every thing here instead of in the proper forum, then there will never be any posts or response in the respective forums and THIS forum will become cluttered with off-top or extraneous posts.

If it’s a Shake question, please use the Shake forum. We have operators standing by. 🙂
