Alright, thanks. Very strange then that is does have an effect coming from uncompressed 8-bit 422 (with gamma correction off).

You could try ‘Enable chroma filtering for 4:4:4 sources when exporting via QuickTime or FCP. Even though your source might not be 4:4:4, I found it can be a solution for a (too) dark export.

As for the monitoring, when one of the exports looks different in comparison to all the others, it doesn’t what kind of monitor you’re using. You detect a change relative to others.
A broadcast monitor is always better though.

Agreed, re-encoding a already encoded video will only result in loss of quality. Flash MX recognizes the video is in a acceptable format and shows this in a alert box. Nothing to be worried about.

  • The solution Ron suggested is very good. You can also post it on Youtube, although that doesn’t look very professional. As an alternative you can take a look at Vimeo. The embedding options are very customizable and the quality is great.

If you don’t want to embed you can always go for H264 of Flash. What kind of player will you use on your website?

We use Bitvice for every dvd we make. It’s very reliable if you know some of the advanced encoding options. I believe does a great job in what it’s supposed to.

For AC3 audio we use Compressor, so Rich is right regarding the work flow issue. But we still think the quality of Bitvice is worth the effort.
