Are you having this problem with ALL files, or just a particular file or file type? What type of file are you trying to open? There are some file types (like mxf files from a P2 card) where you can’t just click on the file in the finder to open it.

I’m not entirely sure that you NEED the software for relinking the clip through the media browser to work. You might want to give it a try without it and see if it works.

I should add that you should bring the media in through the media browser rather than directly importing it.

I just bought a used XF100 and noticed what appeared to be the same problem. I use Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro, so I’m not sure how it works on Avid – but I’d imagine that it’s similar. If you import just the first clip of a multi-clip sequence the system will utilize the XML in the file to rebuild the original long clip out of the multiple short ones. You might need to be running the Canon XF utility to be able to do that. If you don’t have the disc you can download the proper version here:

You might want to check your insurance situation very carefully before making the leap. I see you’re picking up your own insurance, but will you be able to continue that same policy once you’re self-employed? The laws are different from state to state. Here in Illinois I can’t get on a group policy because I’m self-employed. Individual policies are obscenely expensive and 20%-30% ANNUAL rate increases are the norm. (and that’s without filing any major claims-I’d hate to imagine what would happen if I had a major illness.) Medical insurance is far and way my largest monthly expense.

I’ve had people tell me “It must be nice to be self-employed. You can work whatever hours you want.” My response is usually something along the lines of “Yeah. You can work whatever 80 hours a week you want.”
Self-employment can be very rewarding – at least emotionally and intellectually if not always financially. It most definitely is not for the faint of heart.
