    Thanks so much david..just re-did settings..one weird thing though. the stock footage ‘item properties>format’ says compressor type JPG…so I set prefs to this, seems to work fine..:)

    David, just watched the link you sent, really helpful, confusing..but helpful LOL…codecs etc….I know, all starts to sound complicated…can’t i just go back to Imovie, LOL, life was much simpler then!!! :)))

    David, you are correct LOL…I just assumed I could jump straight in and carry on with FCP from where I left off with FCE…I will have a look later at the link you have kindly sent me..at present I have not loaded any images from camera, just stock footage from internet library sites..also just moved the FCP prog from my main Imac drive to the external hard drive to see if that sped up the memory etc..once again, thanks for the help! 🙂

    Great! Now I have the orange pre render view bar…but playback is now staggering..I’m now reconing there’s a memory issue going on!

    Codec: Apple pro res 422 (hdv,xdcam hd etc)
    Frame size: 1024×576
    Compresor H264

    Note: clips I am using are quicktime from video library/stock sources if this helps?

    Just exported using the dimensions you suggested! Worked perfectly!Thanks so much Tom..now I can go back to the Apple store and tell them LOL!!
