That’s a odd size:

Your compressor should be Apple Prores HQ on the sequence.

Your clips should be converted to prores BEFORE you import into FCP. H.264 is NOT an editing codec.

Great! Now I have the orange pre render view bar…but playback is now staggering..I’m now reconing there’s a memory issue going on!

You clearly started using FCP without reading the manual Mark, and no matter how experienced you might be with FCE, you started your project incorrectly. First, study the following brief tutorial and memorize it: https://library.creativecow.net/articles/biscardi_walter/realtime_sequences.php. Then, use what you’ve learned every time you start a new project with FCP.

BTW, what type of media drive are you using to feed video to FCP?

David, you are correct LOL…I just assumed I could jump straight in and carry on with FCP from where I left off with FCE…I will have a look later at the link you have kindly sent me..at present I have not loaded any images from camera, just stock footage from internet library sites..also just moved the FCP prog from my main Imac drive to the external hard drive to see if that sped up the memory etc..once again, thanks for the help! 🙂

You need to keep in mind that FCP does not automatically transcode video to useful codecs for you like FCE does. That’s left up to the editor. So, using video from the Web will likely bring with it issues. Just read the vast number of posts here from people using Canon DSLRs, FlipCams, GoPros, etc. to see that even experienced editors get caught by editing the bad stuff, only to find out later that they will need to reedit after transcoding to a proper realtime FCP codec.

Also, you are right to move your media to an external drive (must be firewire or better BTW, no USB).

David, just watched the link you sent, really helpful, confusing..but helpful LOL…codecs etc….I know, all starts to sound complicated…can’t i just go back to Imovie, LOL, life was much simpler then!!! :)))
