not at all in that instance, but it’s always good to understand things, and also sometimes like I say it lands very far from where you need it eg, if you wanted to speed up to 200%, but FCP will always change to 168% which I think is noticeable – especially if you a speeding up a series of clips and they are all being changed to different speeds.

Hi Paul,
We shoot on 7&5d’s and i’ve usually found this to be a codec issue if the disk space error shows.
As a rule we always send our footage through mpeg streamclip.
It makes editing so much quicker and easier, it’s just part of the process. We encode to pro res 422 (LT or HQ), unscaled, and un-tick interlaced scaling.

a mixture of both, there around about 7 different looks, and various looks have been shot 3/4 times, by 2/3 cameras, and they all sync up by pips at the start of the song.
So essentially it would be nice to flick through all the clips at the same point in the song to see which looks best if you know what I mean. Proabably more useful toward the middle of the edit, but would still be useful to know i think. Currently i’m editing each of the looks separately and combining them later as i usually do.

That sounds brilliant, thank you.
While I wait for that to arrive, has anyone got a quick bit of advice?

Thanks John,
I’m not really necessarily looking to play the camera’s simultaneously, but it would be handy to just select say a 10 sec chunk and quickly flick between the cameras as i understand you can with AVID?

Joel,
Thanks very much for that, just tested it on the TV and it all looks ALOT better!, Thanks. Also I now know why I didn’t have sound either with the first export!
Obviously I’m still quite new to all this corporate stuff and need to learn about interlaced/progressive, field dominance etc, so thanks very much for pointing me in the right direction. i can start using compressor a lot more now!
Michael,
When i export i simply use the quicktime conversion on best settings, is this correct? any other settings you could suggest?

Hi Joel,
Thanks for that, I have tried Shane’s idea of an external monitor and the FCP output still looked the same (but i’m using my laptop screen) so your solution sounds like it could be my lifesaver.
I haven’t used compressor much before though so if you could help me a bit more that would be great!
I have loaded the video into compressor, and under settings dragged up the “MPEG-2 6.2mbps 2 pass” (DVD- best quality 90 min) and then clicked on the video to look at the filters. I can find deinterlace and selected the ‘odd’ algorithm but not sure what this ‘legacy filter’ is and there doesn’t appear to be a blur? looked up the legacy thing on google and it didn’t help.
I’m sorry, this probably sounds really stupid but your help is really appreciated!
Thanks

Hi,
I don’t know if this is the same stuff you’ve looked at but sound effects for transitions i find very useful the collection found under; [computer name]>Library>audio>apple loops>apple>soundideas> and either motion and transitions, or the mech/tech folder. Some of them need some tinkering in Soundtrack but they’re all good i think.
Hope that helps. otherwise search google for “swoosh sound effects free” and there will be billions!
