Never mind – at least for now. Restarting another half-dozen times after resetting PRAM seems to have it running again. I’ll see how long that lasts.

    Bob,

I’ve lit green- and blue-screen for years, always using tungsten, and never had an issue with color temperature. As long as you light it evenly and get a good white balance, all should work just fine.

Have you had issues with this? If not, “If it ain’t broke……”

    Sam,

If you need more tape than Ron has available, I’ve been dealing with the guys at The Media House for years. Always great prices and fast shipping. Tell Ray and Scott I sent you. Maybe they’ll buy me a cup of coffee.

Did you ever find out what is causing this problem? I get the same thing from time to time…… like right now, for instance.

    An addendum to Kieran’s description:

If you’re lucky enough that the clips don’t need to be lengthened or shortened at any time during the interview (if they were shot live as a two-camera interview, for example), you may be able to set them up in the V1 and V2 tracks; use Red or FX as your transition; build the boxes to push the video tracks into and create another track to assign your movie clip of background animation. Once rendered, you will (hopefully) just have to position it directly above the audio tracks. Once everything is in the proper place, lock the rendered video track to the two primary audio tracks and drag to a bin (it won’t leave the timeline, but then you’ll have it synced together in a bin – just in case.)

Also, after I render effects, gpx, etc., I use the “Find Media” (apple-option-F on the mac) and set whatever parameters I’m looking for. It will search your media folder and place the found clips in a “Found Media” bin. Then I just drag the clips I want into the bin I need them in and they’re ready for me to use.

I’m always looking for a better/quicker/easier way to do just about everything, so I hope this helps you as well.

Ben, sorry I didn’t get back with you sooner. I’ve been away from the computer for a few days. (Yes, that’s a good thing!) And since I’m not familiar with Avid, I’m hoping the Red interface works pretty much the same as it does in M100.

If I understand what you are attempting, the action you presently have takes up the whole length of the composition. If that is the case, try doubling the length of the composition, reposition your original keyframes to where you originally had them, then try the cut/paste/reverse trick and see if it gets you where you want to be. (Before you paste them, make sure they will all fall within the length of the timeline.)

I hope this helps (and I hope it’s on time for your project.)

Highlight the keyframes you want to duplicate (click on the first one, shift-click on the last one to select all keyframes in between, or command-click all you want to duplicate); copy and paste them where you want them on the timeline. With the new ones still highlighted, under your TRACK pulldown, there is a REVERSE KEYFRAMES option. After this, you may need to adjust the interpolation to correct the motion settings, but this should get you close.

Hope this is what you needed.

July 14, 2006 at 1:56 pm in reply to: virtual memory?

I’m with the rest of these folks. I like many things about the upgrade to the G5 (primarily the massive memory and storage increase I made at the same time), but the G3 setup was rock solid. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about the present configuration – there are days it wants to act like a PC (reboot, reboot, reboot.)

If it ain’t broke, don’t open the tool box.

Please take note that I’m not familiar with using this model deck in an edit configuration, so this may or may not work……

I found an online copy of the manual at https://www.broadcaststore.com/pdf/model/10008/sony_bvw-50.pdf
It looks like the VIDEO IN is also uses as a sync input. I’m assuming that you will need to keep the switch above that input set to CAMERA, or it will be recording the composite signal.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

    A couple of questions:

Has this deck ever worked on this system before?

Are you simply hitting Play and Record on the deck, or are you using the M100 to control the deck remotely?

I have two M100 systems, one with a UVW-1800 Beta Deck, the other with a BVW-75 Beta deck, and for both I use the composite out from the junction box to the ref in on the Beta deck. Never had a problem with sync on either system with this setup.
