    Hi,

In Final Cut, simply go to your sequence settings, and under field dominance set it to none.

You should get progressive exports from that.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers.

    Hi Dino,

    A few questions:
    1) Did you capture/digitize the clip yourself or was it handed to you as data already?
    2) Was the original footage shot in 25F or was it shot in 50i?
    3) If it was shot in 25F was it played back during digitizing with a 25F compatible machine (XHA1-XLH1)?
    4) What codec was used to capture it with?

January 31, 2009 at 2:00 am in reply to: software to make movies using virtual characters in 3D

Don’t really know if this is a serious question. But if it is:

You’re better off putting a up a notice in your local acting schools/workshops stating that you are making a film with ‘low’ or ‘no’ budget.

You’d be surprised at the amount of people that would respond.

As for getting virtual actors – learn 3D using any of the many available 3D programs – and you’ll soon figure that it’s so much easier to get real actors with real performances than trying to emulate it with their 3D counterparts.

    Hope this helps.

    My two cents.

Either put your foot down in a courteous and professional manner or just grin and bear it.

If you’re too afraid to loose his business – he’ll always have the upper hand and can pretty much do what he wants to do on you.

No matter how you try to ‘fix’ the immediate problems – you will always have a big burden compound on you in the long run. He will always try to skimp on payments, criticize and manipulate you to doing what he/she wants.

There is no changing this situation unless you are willing to walk away.

But if you can’t walk awway, and if trying to find a better client or set of clients to replace what he’s doing for you in terms of jobs and income is too hard or too risky, then just grin bear it and bow down.

You can’t gain anything unless you are willing to loose everything.

September 18, 2008 at 2:06 am in reply to: Portable Capture System

    Hi Brian,

I would be very interested to check-out a portable HD-SDI recorder for the EX which I’m sure would also be compatible to other cameras with an HD-SDI out.

At the moment, as far as I know, one can only do this by having a workstation with an appropriate capture card (Kona, BM or others) on set/location which would be connected to a power outlet. Your camera would then be connected via cable – limiting its movement.

To have an untethered unit which would be able to capture uncompressed 4:2:2 10bit signals from the camera would be fantastic.

There would surely be a market for this.

Build it and they will come (or buy in your case).

Oh, and when you do get it working – make it affordable enough for us indie filmmakers.

    Cheers.

    Hey Scott,

    Thanks for your reply.

The PHU-60k is indeed what I was looking for.

Regarding the 35mm adapter connecting straight to the body of the EX3, I got that idea after finding this in vimeo:
    https://www.vimeo.com/1542171

And was answered in an article I found when I went to look for info on the PHU-60K.

Apparently Letus is creating a 35mm adapter to fit straight onto the body of the EX3. You can read the artilce here:

    Thanks again.

    Hi Mark Daniel,

Just something to consider: coming from 720p and downconverting to 480i – you will get those jagged edges.

If they want it at the same quality as they shot it with – I’m assuming 720p shot with HVX then you should give them a data disc with a quicktime movie of the file.

Otherwise burn it as an HD/Bluray DVD – which they would need a Bluray DVD player for.

Where will this be shown? Is this for broadcast? Is it for internal viewing only? WIll it be projected on a large screen?

If it is for broadcast – there is no HD broadcast signal yet in the Philippines – so NTSC is the standard, try dumping it down to BETA or DigiBeta and give them that copy and hopefully they have a player that can play that.

Otherwise the best thing you could do is make sure that your settings in FC and DVD SP are set to the highest quality setting as possible (which I think you already did).

And if they’re still not convinced go to the apple quicktime trailers website and show them the difference between the 1080, 720, 480p resolutions – since you can choose which res you want to watch the trailer in – and hopefully they see the difference.
