March 18, 2011 at 2:58 pm in reply to: burn dvd in iDVD for 7 second clip-16:9 aspect is ok but burn same 8 min sequence 16:9 is not rightNOTE* This post has an additional part at the end. Thank you. Maybe I wasn’t as clear as I could’ve been in my orig post. When I ONLY burned a DVD of MANY 7 second clips in iDVD, all of them looked as they should according to how they were exported in Quicktime conversion. BUT, when I burned the full 8 minute clip, that one of the 7 second clips was clipped out from,( ie. both the 8 min and the 7 sec clip it was taken from, had exactly the same export settings in QT conversion, and they are the same sequence indeed), the 8 minute clip DID NOT burn as the correct look and shape it should have. And even when i added the 7 second clip along with the 8 min clip on the same DVD burn, the 7 sec clip looked as it should, but the 8min clip did not. SO, I don’t possible see how QT conversion export could be the problem. Both short and long clips look as they should in Quick time.
On this sequence I’m talking about, all I did was change the in/out points on the timeline- one comprised an 8 minute length, and the other in/out point comprised a 7 second version. I exported them out of FC via QT conversion with EXACTLY the same settings.
And an additional thought. I fooled around with compressor and I hate it and can’t get it to work. I think my old version of Compressor is missing some part. And with everything I’ve done correctly in exporting everything in QT conversion, I really can’t see how QT conversion is the problem. -

March 15, 2011 at 8:22 pm in reply to: burn dvd in iDVD for 7 second clip-16:9 aspect is ok but burn same 8 min sequence 16:9 is not rightEVERYTHING is exactly the same. No copying of anything. Blank media is the same. And using Compressor or not shouldn’t be an issue because there is nothing wrong with exporting from FC with Quick Time Conversion. I dont need to change the export method from FC because the same export for both clips gives me the same results, ie they both look like they should, but, they give me different results when the DVD is burned in iDVD.
Please note that both clips are from the exact same sequence in FC, just the in-out points on the timeline are different: one is only 7 seconds long, the other is 8 minutes.
In FC export via QT Conversion, I set ‘size’ at 720×480 NTSC 16:9 and did not check letterbox for either the short clip OR the long clip. And for ‘settings’ I used ‘Best’ quality; 16:9 progressive, not interlaced.
I think the issue is with iDVD because, both the short 7 second QT file and the 8 min QT file that i put into iDVD are EXACTLY the same in every respect of their export settings in FC. And everything is set EXACTLY the same in iDVD. There are not many settings in iDVD anyway. There is just 16:9; Professional Quality; and NTSC. So something is wrong with iDVD not burning the same.
I did check iDVD preferences. -

March 15, 2011 at 7:41 pm in reply to: burn dvd in iDVD for 7 second clip-16:9 aspect is ok but burn same 8 min sequence 16:9 is not rightThanks David, The older Final cut >export > using Quick time conversion’ has the same settings as on the newer FC. I set ‘size’ at 720×480 NTSC 16:9 and did not check letterbox for either the short clip OR the long clip. And for ‘settings’ I used ‘Best’ quality; 16:9 progressive, not interlaced. I really am very short for time and need to get an order out for DVD replication. It takes me too long to figure out compressor.
AND i dont need to change the export method from FC because the same export method gives me the same results, ie they both look like they should, but they give me different results in iDVD.

March 14, 2011 at 6:26 pm in reply to: burn dvd in iDVD for 7 second clip-16:9 aspect is ok but burn same 8 min sequence 16:9 is not rightI only have iDVD to burn DVDs, that’s all. Dont have DVDSP? Also I’m using quick time conversion to export the sequence out from FC Pro 4.5. I dont have time to learn compressor right now. BUT, the problem is in iDVD because as I said the little 7 second burned in iDVD are correct when i play them on my set top dvd player. It is the 8 minute sequence (that the 7 sec clip was taken from), that presents the problem when burned in iDVD. It doesn’t give the 2 different ‘looks’ like the 7 second clip does when played on the set top DVD player when I change the settings back and forth between 16:9 and 4:3 letterbox on the set top player.
