All else: itunes, NI sample library, Sibelius sample library, logic& garage band loop n sample libraries, aperture libraries, all will go on external SSD or RAID.”
I’ve got a 1TB drive in my iMac and I’ve really enjoyed having that capacity after using 320GB boot drive for many years.
[Andre van Berlo] “both RAM and SSD are user replaceable”
I didn’t know the SSD as user replaceable so thats useful.

December 24, 2013 at 6:45 am in reply to: 10.1 fix any of the problems with compound clips[Craig Alan] “Thanks. I thought it was an on-going concern. Guess I wasn’t paying attention to the date of posts.
what about this” https://www.hdwarrior.co.uk/2013/07/21/shocking-discovery-with-fcpx-no-compl...
I wouldn’t hold too much credence from a blog post about FCPX on hdwarrier, it’s primarily a cameraman blog, highly opinionated and quite often a place for the guy who runs it to blow off steam when he can’t get something to work.
As Bret points out compound clips were radically changed and improved, I’ve still not got used to how well they work and also how changes ripple through different iterations of the original compound.

December 20, 2013 at 4:59 pm in reply to: Couldn’t they have automated the projects/events to libraries process?Hi Ron,
Ripple Training have a set of three free instructional videos about the switchover. I watched these before I downloaded 10.1
https://www.rippletraining.com/fcpx-features.html
I also followed the advice of Philip Hodgetts – he is even supplying free software to assist people!
So It’s really not a hassle – you can transfer Events / Projects on a need to basis rather than getting swamped with everything you’ve ever produced.
Whilst being initially a bit nervous – it all went very smoothly – and that’s when the fun starts.
And Alex4d has generously posted a really useful list of FCPX resources
Good luck

[Aindreas Gallagher] “but isn’t anyone more invested in this software a bit disappointed with this?”
If I’m honest I’m a bit disappointed. And my first impression after this long long wait was – Is that it?
I’ve no reason to be as there are substantial improvements on the Event side of life, in fact the Event / Project divide is a thing of the past, but in reality this all feels like a beefed up maintenance upgrade, it’s nearly all under the hood improvements.
But if this major engineering update really works we will all feel the benefit as we work through new jobs in the new year.
Huge improvements for those that need to share their work with a team, and quite a few nifty editing tweaks, but still that slight feeling you get when someone gives you a present that you don’t really like but you don’t want to upset them and ruin the party.
But maybe this is finally where FCPX should have been at it’s launch and now the developers can concentrate on really improving it.
And for me as long as it provides a stable, reliable editing environment I’ll be happy I guess and the fact that this is a free upgrade certainly helps.

[Simon Ubsdell] “And it’s great to see that they didn’t migrate the white balance tools from iMovie despite the confident rumours that this would happen”
Simon – your auto grade App is great but it does require several steps to use it effectively. I was rather taken by the iMovie white balance tool because it’s really easy to use and you can make some very quick adjustments.
But i’m not going to lose any sleep over it’s absence.
I had hoped for a sophisticated update for the Colour Correction ( uk ) but I’ll just settle for stability and no doubt benefit from the new Event structure once I’ve got used to it.

[olof ekbergh] “Problem solved, it was as I suspected a plugin problem “
These plugins eh!
Well done for actually finding which one it was – I’ve just discovered that Coremelt Slice X is not working properly. I would suspect that many stuttery problems might well be caused by plugins and the trick is identifying which one.
The other day Apple support recommended trashing and re-downloading FXFactory as they had come across Mavericks related issues with it.
I’m slightly underwhelmed by 10.1 even though I know its a substantial update – the proof will be revealed through working with it over the next few months, forgetting many workarounds and learning some new ones.

All I’m after is greater stability and more tagging and export functions in the Event Browser.
But stability is the main thing, the kind of stability that mean that preference manager is a thing of the past, that means merging events is not a lottery and that
I don’t have shut and reopen the application to keep core tools working.Anything else would just be a bonus and welcomed as long as they have left the basic functionality as it is. Oh, and round tripping to Motion would be useful.

[Steve Connor] “Will it be an update though or will it appear as a “new” App”
