Great list.

I would add:

1. Ability to increase the size / length of the viewer window in the Event Library when in list view. It’s quite hard to navigate a long clip accurately when creating favourites etc. If one could zoom in to a solo clip it wold save a lot of time.

This window is now the de facto 2nd viewer – well certainly for processing clips on ingest.

2. Ability to be able to nudge or position graphic / text elements in the viewer when creating composite images.

3. Ability to access the timeline options via keyboard short cuts. So that one can quickly switch between the different options / sizes.

4. A switch to turn off all images in the project library. Don’t really need to see thumbnails all the time and they really slow things down. If you can turn them off in the timeline and event browser why not in the project library.

5. An in app facility to share / export compound clips from timeline to Event library.

6. The ability to split / resize all of the various windows in the app just like we could in FCP7. Even with 2 monitors the timeline is not big enough for complex compositing etc.

so really just re introducing some basic UI conventions from FCP.

A lion ate my mouse and I am now using a wacom tablet.

I’ve got 2 x 27″ Samsung 1920×1080 monitors and really enjoy having loads of ‘eye’ space especially useful to have a whole screen for the events library. But you do need to have the monitors set right back on the desktop to avoid neck ache!

Someone on this forum – I think it was Andy Mees, posted a picture of a set up with a second 16/9 monitor turned on its side for the Event window.

Now that we have got external monitoring I have turned my 32″ Sony back on. This sits on the right of my desk on another shelf and quite a way back and will be useful to check end output. All this adds up to a lot of screen space, it’s looking a bit like some of the transportation control rooms I’ve been filming recently.

The Intensity Pro card I have re-installed is not working properly yet. The only output available is NTSC 720×480. There are a couple of threads running on the Creative Cow Blackmagic forum and Blackmagic are aware of these issues. I guess that with both the FCPX AV and the Blackmagic Desktop Video being in Beta that these problems are to be expected and that both companies will welcome feedback from us.

Once Matrox have released a new driver I might re-install the MXO2 for the simple reason that it ships with colour calibration software which is something that Blackmagic don’t appear to offer at the moment.

Yes – this is a problem I’ve identified as well.

FCPX 10.0.3 / OSX 10.7.3 Intensity Pro only option is NTSC 720×480

I’ve reinstalled several times thinking I’d done something wrong so it’s reassuring to find out that others are experiencing this issue and that a fix is being worked on.

But how exciting to have external monitoring again ( well almost )

I’m still using FCP7 to get files off my camera cards, discard absolute rubbish, rename and set a destination folder.

I then import into FCPX without adding the files to the event or carrying out any of the auto functions.

With DSLR files I use MPEG Streamclip and transcode ProRes 422-LT. You could rename the files in the folder you have transcoded to.

Well it’s not like a tin of Baked Beans, something you need to buy each week.

I would have thought most people who were interested in buying FCPX etc would have done so already.

And I wouldn’t see it as a recreational purchase.

Life’s too short for that.

I’d be interested to know what the conversion rate was for the try before you buy option.
