I use my rotobrushed layer as an alpha matte over itself. Then I blur the matte as needed throughout the shot if necessary, I find that easier for me to control and keyframe on and off.

The quick answer is that you really don’t have much choice but to scale them up since all they gave you was 1080p. There may be some upscaler technique or software out there somewhere but I don’t even know if it is worth it. Unless this is a private thing being shown on a 4k tv or they have access to 4k broadcast I wouldn’t stress too much about scaling it up.

Buy a used tower then sell it for what you bought it for when you are done. You shouldn’t lose any money and if you are lucky you might even make a few bucks. I know this for sure you will definitely not lose 600 for 2 weeks unless you fire sale it off. This is if you can front the money until you can recoup it several weeks later.

So both the temporal and spatial settings are set to Auto Bezier and that is what your graph looks like?

He is not using C4D, he is using Element 3D within After Effects.

  • Walter I totally get what you are saying with other layers and lights having an effect on the element 3d object BUT it is still not the case with a fresh comp. Even if I have nothing in my comp but a source text layer and an Element 3D object of that text the preview window is still not consistent with the output.

Hopefully Kramer can do something about that because a lot of times I’m pretty satisfied with the preview only to realize I have more work to do after I okay it haha.

Do you have a link to your AI file?

Sometimes when you divide shapes in AI it makes more shapes than necessary. One shape may be the one you are looking for then the other shape may be the divided area. In essence you aren’t seeing a hole in your work you are seeing 2 solids one being a positive shape the other being a negative shape.

If you have your file I could take a screengrab for you of what I mean. It is easier to find the pieces you don’t need from Illustrator rather than scrolling through the many masks in AE IMO.
