Thanks David, I’ve shut the thing down for the night. I figure when I turn it on in the morning the FCP fairies will have magically fixed it. Barring that I will try the trash preferences thing. I got so frustrated by this that I forgot to start with the most obvious first step in Mac software repair.

Thanks Gary. I would have loved to have the Varicam but we had to go with what we could afford and I wasn’t the guy with the money. I’m not asking for slomo as good as a varicam, I’m simply asking that given what I have to work with, the HDX900, has anyone tried variable speeds just by slowing in fcp and which camera setting seemed to give the best result for what is obviously a compromise. Believe me, this compromise doesn’t exactly thrill me either. I am doing my own tests and will let folks know my opinion based on those.
Thanks again for your reply.

I just received my Goodman guide today. Hopefully a lot of you can same the same.

Thanks John. Yes I know about the FRC but I’m actually looking for variable frame rates. FRC will only give me two speed conversions,(24,30). I’m looking to do possibly 60%, 70%, 85% 30%, etc. I know I’ll lose half the resolution but for the need, tools and budget that’s what I have to work with. Essentially it’s like taking a beta sp machine and slowing it down to whatever speed and accepting the resolution loss. I was just curious if anyone has found the best compromise whether through camera settings or a program that might translate off speed changes better than FCP, (maybe this is an FCP forum question).

I really appreciate you all chiming in on this. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who doesn’t understand why this is not part of FCP. I had already tried a few of the things suggested and they work, but I was hoping there was actually something within FCP itself. Maybe someday.
Thanks again!

Thanks Walter, I did already think of this, turning on the tc window and viewing in another monitor, but I was optimistically hopefully there was something more elegant withing FCP.

I read that second paragraph a few times and to me it says I can carry on a battery with up to 8grams PLUS up to two more that added together do not exceed 25 grams. That means that I could carry on three Dionic 90s for example.

Evan and Santellavision,
Great answers. Thanks for responding so quickly. We shoot a lot of 16mm so I understand the relationships. Knowing that turning on the shutter to half will reduce blur is great info! I’ll definitely test this one out.
Thanks again!

I agree that checking for a losse board is a goofd start. We have not had transponder problems with our 900. I did just complete a shoot and had constant mcrovibrations in the footage. I tried wedging the camera’s quick release plate to eliminate any play. We flew in two different Jet Rangers using the Tyler nose mount for both. I’ve shot a lot of SD with our Sony 550 over the past several years and never had this problem, (although the transponder did affect that camera and we had to fly with the transponder off). Any ideas on how to eliminate the microvibrations?
