Drop frame issue
I’m editing with FCP6. I’m capturing component from BetaSP through a DataVideo dv/analog bi-directional converter(DAC-15). The tape I’m playing back is absolutely “non-drop” frame. Here’s my issue…I’ve set everything I can find in FCP to “non-drop”. When I play the tape the top tc windows in the log and capture window both show “non-drop”, (colons). When I mark an in-point the bottom in box show non-drop. As soon as I hit the out they both change to “drop”, (semi-colon). Here’s the real fun part. This is a project I’ve been working on for 2 weeks and everything was fine earlier today. It was after I setup a new project for another client the issue arose. I treied going back to my original project and that all of a sudden had the “drop” issue in capture.
I’ve checked the presets and they are set “non-drop”.
Any ideas?

Have you tried trashing prefs???
Shane Ross’ stock answer #798,231 says, “whenever you encounter sudden goofiness in FCP, try trashing prefs first…”

Thanks David, I’ve shut the thing down for the night. I figure when I turn it on in the morning the FCP fairies will have magically fixed it. Barring that I will try the trash preferences thing. I got so frustrated by this that I forgot to start with the most obvious first step in Mac software repair.

Funny you should say that David. I have something called the Stock Answer Mantra: When things in FCP start acting weird, or like they shouldn’t be, then you need to:
1) Repair Permissions with the Disk Utility
2) Trash your preferences. Best tool for this is FCP RESCUE
3) Shut down for 10 min. Go for a quick walk around the block and get SOME exercise today. Come back, turn on the computer and see how things are.
4) Do the hokey Pokey and turn your self about. Results may vary.
