Thank you, Michael, for your in depth reply. The solution is to include my audio only file(s) as an “angle” in the multiclip. Then in the angle editor select the audio “angle” and, in the info section of the inspector, change the configuration from stereo to dual mono. Append the multiclip to a project (timeline) and expand audio components (contextual menu). Viola – the separate audio tracks are now available.

Are you saying that if the dual mono selection was made before the multiclip is made then the multiclip will allow access to both channels separately? I don’t think that’s correct but PLEASE, prove me wrong. Yes, I understand selecting the correct audio within the multiclip.

thanks Jeff and thanks again Mathieu. I’ll keep floundering on and hope Apple pays more attention to the audio in the near future.

    thanks, Mathieu

Have you used this tutorial? I’ve seen it listed but I wasn’t confident it would provide what I’m looking for.

Well I suspect the aliases went missing because I forced quit in the middle of an inadvertent operation that I didn’t know the outcome of. The beach ball was spinning and the signs said danger.

So just to be clear – your solution would have been to drag the original files to the event icon within FCPX. And that would have relinked all the projects (timelines) as well?

Excuse me if I’m restating the obvious but X is a new animal with new terminology. Your working methodology is to have two copies of each file; one in your event folder and one elsewhere?

    thanks

    mark
