I use a lot of Null objects to parent the layers. Save a ton of precomps and often gets me out of jams. Huge fan of the Null.

Sound can be quite heavy….especially if it is uncompressed. FOr sound I generally send 22k 8 bit mono…sounds kind of crappy, but is very light. For better compreseeions, you may want to invest in the Sorenson video3 pro codec. It features VBR, so you end up with a better looking movie that is much lighter. I use Discreet CleanerXL for all of my compressing needs. I usually send out windows media files, as most of my clients are on PC. A decent quality movie with good sound can be had for under 4mb…..very cool.
Another way to look at things is to get your hands on some ftp space. You can upload better quality clips to the ftp space, then the client can download from there. I do that with some of the larger files that I get asked for.

It can look realistic….but you have to play around with the settings. I find that you have to add some chaos. Snow rarely falls straight down, there is wind moving it around. Chaos helps create this illusion. I also find that the idea of snow sticking to surfaces is a good one, but I find that the snow that is stuck flickers, thus making the snow look fake.

I thought that the piece flowed rather well, although the black between some clips seemed a little lengthy for my taste. Also the first time you go to black is with a hard cut, I would have preferred to see a soft cut (3-4 frame dissolve). I also found the audio mix, towards the end was bothersome….the voice was fighting with music….I couldn’t hear the voice at times, but I’m not sure if you wanted feedback on the audio.
All in all I enjoyed it. I am not a doc editor, although I have done feature work in the past. Congrats…

IM really into soccer shirts, being a Brit by birth….I often wear one of my England shirts. I like to dress for comfort, and trust me, there is avery little else more comfortable than a soccer shirt.
