Not only access time matters. If you need to access an amount of data, the access time of reading the next amount of data will be the actual access times + the time needed to read all that data in the first place.

But, you should download some 4k files and play with them in current configuration. Vegas lets you choose the quality of the preview. Lower it a little bit and maybe you will be satisfied.

  • Edward, when working with 4 hours of footage and having to stabilize at least 20-30 clips, it’s a little hard to stabilize each clip separately. That’s why there is a timeline with multiple clips and layers on it, to benefit from it! Sony has done a nasty job and I can’t imagine a reason for doing it! But if that’s how thing are, we always find a solution!

Sooo… I tried Mercalli Stabilizer, v2.105. It does it’s job better than sony’s own stabilizer. And works with slowmotion like a charm.

In general seems like interlace footage is a little off hand for stabilizers. I shoot with a Sony NX5 witch gives me 50i interlace footage, and from here all the problems.

    Anyway,
Thanx to all who have written. Happy editing!

  • It seems that After Effects cant either do stabilizing in conjunction with slow-motion, so if we want to use both effects on the same clip we have to do them separately or use third party stabilization.

    Thank to those who replied.

  • It’s confirmed, same happens whit latest build of Vegas 12. Shaky image when stabilizing in conjunction with slowmotion.

I’m blown away by this. Still hoping that i’m doing it wrong, but it seems like not.

  • Steve, you are right, it’s not for nothing, because the results are beatiful! But i guess Sony didn’t had that in mind when they wrote the code for the program.

I will try to update Sony Vegas and see if this still happens again.

It’s pretty annoying to add stabilizer effect from media fx already. But to make a new project and render it for every file that would need stabilizing for a slowmotion effect in the base project, it’s almost too much. And nonsense!

    I will come back

  • that’s a good ideea… but it’s so much work for nothing 🙂

i see now that youtube hasn’t shown my problem so the rendered file with the problem is: https://www.fotosmiley.ro/stuff/stabilizer_problem_vegas_12.m2t
