Thanks for the quick reply, Shane! That makes me feel a lot better about it.

Another question though-does importing at the project frame rate do any good at all? Maybe render times are quicker? Anything? They’ve been doing it this way at the new job and I want to make sure I’m not going off the rails without knowing something.

    And 1000x thanks again!

    Oh thank goodness…

I keep getting confused about the 60i, which is actually 29.97fps vs actually 59.94fps. Trying very hard not to muck it up.

    Thanks again, Shane!

I was struggling with this last week. I found that I could transcode most of the clips one at a time, but two were causing this error. I then took the original clips (.mts clips off of AVCHD media), threw them on the desktop, then AMA’d those and they transcoded fine.

The flickering itself seems to have been just a display issue, like you suggested, because I exported same as source and ran it through VLC, which showed none of the flickering I saw. The jagged edges are an issue though.

I might’ve found a workaround, which is to open the raw media in quicktime and then use QT to export as 1080p. I both imported and AMA linked/transcoded with that file, and boom! No more jagged straight lines.

Just as an experienced opinion, though, do you think quicktime is a reliable converter? Not sure how much trust I should put in it…

Thanks for the reply and the quick tutorial!

It IS odd, isn’t it? No, it’s just Avid software playing on a Mac OS 10.9.5 laptop. Could it be that the laptop just doesn’t have great specs to playback properly? The processor is 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7, Graphics are Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB, Memory 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 if any of that helps!

You would be correct in guessing it was XDCam footage!
All of our footage was AMA linked and then transcoded to DNxHD.

Originally I brought in the footage with all 8 tracks (though some just had four originally, but nonetheless), realized I didn’t want all of that, then unlinked the master clip and modified the footage to remove the extra tracks.

I also believe it happens only on some clips, and I’m not sure about the “Tracks” column–I’d have to check but I’m away from work for a while!

    (Thanks for the response, too!)

    Yes that’s right.
