Thank you Simon, and pardon my ignorance, but by manual do you mean the HELP in the upper menu bar? or is there an actual manual we can download somewhere?
    Thanks for your help!

I like the idea of trying to learn more about this software we just paid $300 for while we keep using FCP 7. I’m sure apple will roll out the professional features we all want, but for now, I would like to start understanding things a bit better and be ahead of the curve:

    1. Where the hell is the mixer? Does it have one? (And I’m not talking about the individual sound clip mixer in the inspector pane, I need sliding faders) is it hidden somewhere?

    2. I already posted this in another thread, but can you copy single effects from one clip to the other (in FCP7 you just drag the effect to the new clip)

    3. How do select and export just a fragment of the timeline?

If I find out anything about these questions I will post here, and if YOU have the answers PLEASE post here.

Ok, I gotta go and keep feeding this love-hate relationship with FCPX.

    Thanks,
    Mario

John, I just have a quick question, as I have not found any info on this. You mentioned you “rode” the levels… was that in the inspector window? I’m desperately looking for the “mixer” in this thing which I use heavily to set levels for different audio channels in real time. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you have the “create optimized media” button selected? Maybe it automatically converted your video to 720, so it is not a re-scaled 1080 clip, but rather an “optimized” 720 clip… Just my theory.

Well, couldn’t tell you because the damn thing doesn’t open previous versions’ projects. But it’s nice eye-candy though.

    Thanks guys,
I was sort of hoping to stay in the 720p realm as I will have to work on many graphics for the show and the less rendering time in After Effects the better. I guess I’ll have to experiment with crossconverting via FCP or AE… I’ll let you know…. oh, and yes, the KONA LH is a great card!

Thanks Noah! You’re totally right, NAB is around the corner and any new goodies related to the HVX might be worth the wait.
Thanks for all your help, you guys have really helped me sort things out.
    Mario.
