  • The problem was caused by my doing an archive and install. I dragged most of the FCP folders over to the new system but missed a couple. When I tracked them down and dragged them over I stopped getting the error message

In answer to your question I didn’t have any problems moving the folders over to the new system. I think if it related to the operating system it might be different but these were just appliations folders I was dragging over.

  • Just in case this helps someone – I got the same error message after I had to do an Archive and Install on my Mac (on Apple’s advice) due to losing my internet connection.

The FCP codex error message was caused by missing items in the library folder. What I had to do was open the previous systems folder and check the contents against the current folder and then (if it contained stuff that the current one didn’t) dump the new one in the trash and drag the old one over (via the desktop)

All very tedious – however I got there in the end. Incidentally during this process I lost my internet connection again – and discovered that the culprit that was causing this to happen was the preferences folder.
