gpu count is a killer for sure. modern linux should not be any different from osx in my mind if it has good ui support. i have installed some of them to relatives to just have net computer and it is not too hard.
windows used to have one good option. it was prorez decoder app so one could still open
prorez files made on mac and render out to something else. i’m not sure if it is a live after fcpx release.—

as far as i see linux is more optimized compared to windows. i mean the os does not bog machine down
as windows does on some machines.—

Good windows machines are hi end Dell or HP for example but they will cost probably more than mac pro.

In business sense i see the point. Take some scratch market. I bet configuration guide is like with
ultrascope. This works and other thing will not.Good pc wil cost you a ton.

I wonder if your system runs 2k dpx smoothly ?
16 bit files i assume.

Good point there specially with internal processing in mind.
And yes 16 bit will bog down mac pro.

What is the timeline like ?
What i mean is how it is done in fcp (nle) ? Some editors make prorez with different names
and it may confuse resolve as xml des not point to original material enymore.
Reel names in file name works perfect for me.Try to open your xml in red cine and see if it works there ?
With DSLR mostly you get this if you use original files without proper timecode when you edit.
Then xml gets some other timecode and those will not match again in resolve.—
