Hi Michael. My thought is to keep it in 4k all the way through the edit process so that any effects, filters, renders, excetera that you add are done in 4k and only convert to 1080p on the output. In other words, edit in the highest quality and output the 1080p only as the very last part of the process, that way any potential reduction in quality happens at the very last stage. And yes, I am probably complicating things.

Michael, I’m just seeing this thread so excuse me just now weighing in. I really don’t have any 4K experience with Media 100 but if you are still searching for an answer try this: Edit a short sequence in a 4k timeline and output to 1080p. Then import the original 4K source footage to a 1080p timeline, edit and output to 1080p. Reimport the edited sequences to the same 1080p timeline and use the catch frame feature of Media 100 to examine identical frames of each sequence and compare them using your eyeballs and make the determination if there is any difference in editing in 4K and outputting 1080p or converting your 4K to 1080p timeline and outputting 1080p. Hopefully this is a viable technique.

May I suggest contacting Douglas Bruce at https://www.gaijin-eyes.com. He seems to have a good understanding of Boris RED and spline masks.

I recently edited a two-camera interview using MultiClip. I used my older MacBook Pro with a G-Tech 2TB G-Drive (non-RAID) via Firewire 800 (directly into the MBP) and had no problems.
An option on this particular MBP is eSata, which I have never used but have drives with that connection as well as the interface to make it happen.
eSata is supposed to be much faster than Firewire so if you have that port on your Mac, give it a try.

Floh, your MultiClip tutorial is really good but, of course, it does not cover all scenarios. Hopefully the Media 100 stakeholders will add written instructions to the user guide that deal with MultiClip use.

It finally dawned on me to try hitting the Factory Settings button and everything appears to be working as expected. If that’s not the case, Floh, I will review your post and respond accordingly. Essentially I was switching or cutting between two cameras and nothing was happening on the timeline. No light blue markers were appearing. But now that I’ve hit Factory Settings I am getting the light blue markers on the timeline. I don’t know if terminology wise in M100-speak that is a switch or cut (I assume, cut) but I appear to be getting the desired results. I’ll post back if that is not the case. Thanks!

The tutorial is what I started with.

I have been able to get the timeline CTI to move as it should and I’m switching but still no takes are recorded to the timeline.

I got my MiultiClip switching question answered but now my switches aren’t being recorded to the timeline. In fact the CTI is not moving at all when I have the multi display up in one of the of the monitors. I can play back and switch in the Edit Suite but nothing gets recorded. If I am able to make the CTI move the MultiClip display goes away. I’m thinking there’s something very simple that I’m missing but it’s frustrating because I need to finish this project tonight. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
