Thanks very much Andy. I figured out how to do this in Trapcode Particular, but this is much easier. It was just the right combination of buttons needed. Excellent.

I was dealing with pretty complicated motion comps with lots of 3D layers, so I never tried to play them without rendering. If I zoomed out/in, I had to sit an wait for about 30 seconds for all the video and audio layers to refresh thumbnails/waveforms, like they weren’t being held in cache. Rainbow balls appeared throughout, and sometimes resulted in crashes.

Perhaps some of this instability will be addressed in 10.5.2.

In both cases I was editing from a Lacie 500GB drive connected via FW800. The sequence was D1 anamorphic, but contained footage including 720 and 1080 material.

    Probably right, I suppose.

So, would someone buying FCS2 for the first time be getting a different box than my FCS1 upgrade? I would have thought they would have been exactly the same except that mine sniffs for my original serial, but I’d thunk someone buying for the first time woud want the full manual set including SOUNDTRACK, DVD STUDIO PRO and MOTION.

What I don’t get is why I get 4 volumes of FCP6, of which 90% is excactly the same as the last manuals, but no manual for the entirely new COLOR application.

After exporting several other trailers to HDV1080 24p, this seems to be the case. Everything that is 23.98 works fine playing from both the preview and program windows out to the monitor. The first trailer I tried (the Transformers trailer) is the only problematic one, which seems to want to be 24fps in FCP no matter how I try to force a 23.98fps frame rate when exporting from Quicktime pro. But if dropped into a 23.98fps sequence, this one will work as well, just not on it’s own in the preview window.

I tried another trailer and this one is working in both the preview and program windows. The difference is that the one trailer is showing up as 24fps, and the other (the one that’s working) is showing up as 23.98. I’ve tried several times in Quicktime pro to export the HDV file as 23.98, but it still keeps showing up in FCP as 24. Weird…

I know about true 24p capable displays, but can’t the Kona do a realtime pulldown for monitoring, like FCP can out of the sequence?

Thanks, shall do. My clients are just starting to ask for HD, so now’s the time to do this kind of research.
