  • HDV output to monitor on LHe

Hey. Just getting aquainted with my new system. I’ve tried playing back DV footage from an offline via the component outs on the LHe, and it works great. Just to see how great it will look, I digitized some footage from the HDV camera to view on my new SONY Bravia 26″ monitor. I digitized the footage through firewire and it plays back ok on the computer, but I can’t find a video playback option that gives me anymore than a still frame on my TV. My footage is 1440×1080 using the 1080i60 compressor. What gives?

Check that you have View/View all frames set in FCP. Also check the Kona LH Control Panel and make sure your analog out it set to secondary and whaterver format your Bravia can handle through the component input.

    Good Luck,

Thanks infohou, I’ve found one that works. It displays through the 1080i29.97 8 Bit(1920×1080) option. What threw me was I was looking for a 60i 1440×1080 option (to match my image size). Why isn’t there one?

the smpte spec for 1080 video is 1920×1080.

So, besides being highly compressed, HDV is also stretched horizontally to fit the 1920×1080 frame?

Well those 2 things are one and the same.

Almost all of the HD formats do some type of horizontal squeeze when laying to tape.

you need to read the “understanding HD broadcast formats” in the FCP help section of the manual.

Thanks, shall do. My clients are just starting to ask for HD, so now’s the time to do this kind of research.

you Should really do this type of research before you jumped in.
HD (even HDV) is not like working with DV footage.

you have much to learn grasshopper…
