Though I agree that setting up to launch something this close to a major update is weird- unless he’s sure whatever he’s demoing WON’T be a feature of the next update.

Also, unless there’s another shoe to drop- I don’t think Apple would allow anyone to preview FCPX before it’s launched. At least, I can’t remember them ever doing that before.

While I think it would be wonderful to see targeted events for specific areas of Apple’s business- it would represent a big shift in PR.

I’m going to take this with a whole whack of salt until we hear some substantiation from somewhere else.

I have a question I’d like to table now, since I’m planning on buying a new MacPro on release.

So far we’ve had 2 processor options presented-

The top end 12-core 2.7GHz

And likely a mid-tier option of a 8-core 3GHz

I know that some applications benefit more from higher clock-speeds and others from more cores.

Knowing that it’s certainly going to make a lot of difference to max out the GPU (if fiscally possible), which option here most benefits FCPX and Motion? 12 cores at a slower clock-speed or 8-cores at higher?

Any thoughts or experiences?

I just don’t think we can take anything for granted with this machine yet.

Also, even if it’s a custom board, this time next year, when there’s a new faster FirePro available, who’s to say AMD won’t make it available for individual sale. As long as we can get the thing out. And the construction of the new MacPro does not look impenetrable like a laptop or an iMac, based on the videos on Apple’s site.

There’s still absolutely NO solid information that says that GPUs won’t be able to be replaced in the new MacPro.

Not sure this will be the base-model. Apple could offer a 6-core config as well.

But if this 8core machine stacks up well against the current 12core versions, then the new 12core config should be a nice improvement.

Certainly for someone like me who’s been bouncing between MacBookPros and iMacs since I abandoned my G5Quad in 2009.

Thanks Rick. I’ve been arguing with a couple of people though that are bound and determined to believe this Fall’s MacBookPros will come with Thunderbolt2.

While that would be nice, if the iSeries Intel chips don’t support it on the iMac, I don’t see how they will on the MBPs.

Only in the 21″ model. 27″ still has user-replaceable RAM, same as last year.
