  • Hi Nigel,

I got now time to fix this problem!

I hoped I could fix this by uninstalling all previous Vegas Versions. But somehow it still does not work!
I got the same troubleshooting like these guys: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/894213
Even by deleting the files Vegas won’t work.

Is it maybe an issue that I am running the Sony Vegas 11 32 Bit version on a Windows 7 64bit?

  • OK, I got the solution:

    https://wiki.treet.tv/Sony_Vegas_Pro_and_Windows_Setup

Just at the end of the page they tell us how to install the codec properly.

Just in case someone got the same problem, I share this and hope I can help. Many thanks to you John, you helped me very much!
    Here it is:

Installing HuffYUV in Windows 7 64bit systems

The following steps are necessary to install the HuffYUV codec under Windows 7 64 bit systems.

    1. Unzip the files it to your C: drive.

    2. Open up a command prompt (DOS box), while logged in with a user account that has administrative privileges (go to the Start menu, and in the command box type in cmd and then press ctrl+shift and then press enter while still holding ctrl+shift. If you’ve done it correctly, then the little black DOS box will say “Administrator: Command Prompt” in the on-screen text.

    3. Assuming your copy of Windows was installed with the standard method (C:Windows), navigate to the SysWOW64 folder (in the little black DOS box, type cd c:windowssyswow64 and then press enter).

    4. Again, in the DOS box, type rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 c:huffyuv.inf and press enter. Pay close attention to the spacing. And that’s a “zero” in the last half of the command, not the letter “O”. There’s no space around that comma.

  • Hi John,

So I have now a sony vegas 11 32 bit. I can apply all my old plug ins I used to use in vegas 7. I’ve also installed huffyuv 2.2.0 (32bit)
If I import the file it still says it can’t open up my file. G spot recognizes that the avi file has the huffyuv codec on it, but says it isn’t installed? Why? In my programm lists, it says it is installed?

Obviously, I would prefer I could handle somehow that codec problem, but this seems to be desperate.
Is there maybe a workaround? I really dont want to recompress all my files (about over 800 videofiles). Is there a chance, if I setup win 7 32 bit on another hard drive, that it would work on that one?
    Many thanks,

  • Hello John,

I’ve tried now to open up my project on a 32 bit version of Sony Vegas 11. Right after I open up my project it says that it got an error while opening my project. The error is that it can’t open up a codec. I can still open up my project with the 64 bit version. What shall I do? Shall I uninstall my current huffyuv codec (64bit) and install the one I used to work with? I dont understand this problem. I always thought if you work with 64 bit, it would automatically accept 32 bit too. How shall i proceed? The positiv aspects are now that all the plugins work on the Sony Vegas 11 32 bit version.

Something must be done to get this codec work!

  • Hello John,

I installed the k-lite codec plug in at the very end, when anything else didn’t work. I dont think that the codec caused the problem.

I’m going to try to install sony vegas 10 32 bit and report my results.
    I hope it works.

  • hey thanks for your quick answer!
Well I’m using After effects CS4. Everytime I load my project it crashs at 98% at one particular Composition, where I did not use this effects. However, rebooting after effects doesnt help me out. I know that a similar message sometimes appeared and told me something I have not enough memory. Anyway, this was another issue. Now I can not even open my project file to disable the effect or render some pieces out.

The only thing that came in my mind, was to uninstall the plug-in and then check if i can open my project…
    Any other suggestions?

  • Hey, would you be so friendly to say how you solved this issue?
I have this problem too and I have no other backup or found any solution on the internet!
Would be really nice for any tips!
    Kind regards Bara
