February 20, 2019 at 9:24 pm in reply to: Final Cut Pro 6 insists on changing the aspect ratio of my projectThanks for chiming in. I had captured the footage some time ago using Firewire, but I think it was just set at the default FCP 1080 HD setting. If I go to the individual clip settings it says the Compressor is “Apple Intermediate.”
Anyway as I was typing that last post, I had an epiphany and went back to the project and copied the entire sequence and pasted it in the 2nd sequence that I’d used for the test clip. The aspect ratio of the footage looked correct but it still insisted on squishing the titles and the other non-1080 clips I had in there, so I had to go through and manually go to the properties for each one (Distort – Aspect Ratio) and change them all to 0, and that fixed that problem.
I exported using Compressor and H264 Quicktime and lo and behold, it actually gave me a 1920×1080 correctly-scaled file. Quite the workaround but I guess that’s what I get for not capturing it using the right settings as you stated.

May 10, 2012 at 10:57 pm in reply to: Canon XHA1 not working with Firewire 1394a in Windows 7OK I got capturing to work using HDVSplit, so the firewire connection is working. That means it must be an issue with Premiere not being able to capture in HDV. Unfortunately Premiere also can’t recognize the .m2t files HDVSplit uses, so that solution won’t work either.
ALSO…for no apparent reason at all, I opened up Vidblaster & Wirecast again and the camera shows up! I have no idea why it decided to start working, but I’m not about to question it!

May 10, 2012 at 9:54 pm in reply to: Canon XHA1 not working with Firewire 1394a in Windows 7I’m trying to preview/capture while in the 1080i 24F shooting mode. In Premiere Pro CS5, I’ve tried the “DVCPROHD 1080i60” & “DVCPROHD 1080p24” sequence settings. Those look like the only 2 that would be applicable. I installed the Premiere 5.0.3 update which was supposed to add more compatibility with Canon cameras, but still those are the only options I have. Supposedly I should see “Canon XF MPEG 2” and “HDV” options, but they’re not there (https://forums.adobe.com/message/3878944). These are the options I DO have:
https://tinyurl.com/7zwu9nfWhen I go to DV/HDV Device Control Settings in Preferences, under “Check Status” it says “Online.” For a brief moment in the capture window I could control the playback settings on the camera, though it was just a black screen (even though it was playing footage on the camera). I have no idea why it worked temporarily, now when I plug it in the program just says “Can’t activate recorder. Try resetting camera.”

Hi Steven, yes you can. The HDMI port is for live preview as well. I have a Vixia HF10 and it works great. You just need a miniHDMI/HDMI cable to go to your monitor and you’re good to go.
Just from a testing standpoint, one thing I can’t get to work is composite video preview out – so I’m thinking that is for playback only.
-
Well despite how it looked in the preview, I went ahead and burned the 2nd project I started from scratch and that one works. I still can’t skip chapters, but that isn’t necessary anyway. Guess that first project was just cursed! Thanks for the help guys.

Thanks, I hadn’t really thought of that. Maybe that’s the problem – that Encore just isn’t setup for this sort of thing. I couldn’t find anything on playlists in the Encore help, so it likely doesn’t have that option.
This is the first time I’ve tried stringing together multiple different timelines to play back-to-back. Maybe I’d be better off rendering them all together as one clip and importing it that way, then setting chapter points within that. A time-consuming pain, but at least I’m sure it would work.

Just got done recreating the project again. If it is not functioning correctly in the Preview (chapter skip doesn’t work) should I just assume it’s not going to work on the finished disc and not waste a DVD?
-
In the project window, when I look at all of the timelines the overrides are all “Not Set”. Neither are the “Menu Remote” buttons, since I have no menu. If I just pop it in and don’t touch anything it still plays everything out of order. When I try to skip to the next video with the chapter skip button, it doesn’t work. I know, it doesn’t seem to make any sense, I’ve never encountered this type of problem with Encore before.

That’s the weird thing, I don’t have any set. I’ve learned not to mess with those! 😉
