    Good Day Folks,

I am using a Canon Vixia HF M30, and was wondering if I am able to connect an external monitor, for viewing while I am recording? I am doing a step by step instructional video, and would like to have a monitor I can look at while I am recording. I looked through the manual, and noticed there is a HDMI out, but not sure if that’s only for playback.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Steven

Hi Steven, yes you can. The HDMI port is for live preview as well. I have a Vixia HF10 and it works great. You just need a miniHDMI/HDMI cable to go to your monitor and you’re good to go.

Just from a testing standpoint, one thing I can’t get to work is composite video preview out – so I’m thinking that is for playback only.
