    Guys,

    Thanks for the replys.
I think I’m going to setup a similar thing via a DV transcoder or start to reject DVD formats as raw footage ‘masters’.

The other thing I was thinking about is the fact to make the client sign a statement that he fully understands the technical limitations as explained and that we are not responsible for final edit quality due to the source material limitations. That was we cover ourselves against non-payers and avoid a lot of hassle and justification after the job is done.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

    Marc

  • Just my 2 cents on this topic.
I started out in the business as a lighting guy. Got fed up with the long and hard hours and at the birth of my first child (I was 32 then) I decided to get off the road and spend more time watching my kids grow up. I was already active in the video sector on event level and decided to go for a small boutique post house along with a partner who handles the commercial side (and the mess it brings with it). At first I was strapped for cash after the initial investment and thought it was a good idea to accept a position as freelance senior video editor for a large computer manufacturer who at that time had a training center here in Belgium. Convenient hours, location close to my home, etc etc etc. The initial contract was 5 years, renewable. But then, SURPRISE, a year later they decide to shut down the facility and claim ‘unforeseen circumstances’ to terminate the contract. I was of course entitled to penalties but the legal battle has been going on for 3 years now and I’m not in the mood to fight any longer. Turning 40 this year, I prefer to focus on making money to have a decent living standard and acquire the equipment I need to serve my clients. So as tempting as a internal position might sound, I’m goingt o stay away from it like hell, because in the end it(‘s allways on ‘their’ terms and they can get rid of you as fast as this with most of the time ludicrous excuses.

    My 2 cents ….

I agree, the Trapcode plugs are a must have !

Also the Genarts Sapphire package is a killer plug suite.

Plus the fact that Blackmagic is an Aussie company and the service is outstanding !!!

They are very proactive, especially with drivers.

ANd they select the distributors very well.
Here in Belgium nothing but good experiences with Blackmagic, plus the fact that almost EVERY small shop here is eqquipped with a Blackmagic card (PC or MAC)

  • This asset possibility would be a killer app, because right now I’m looking for a way to archive all my tapes and have not come around to see an ideally suited application.

I would have to capture everything again, and since this is done on every project it would be nice to use the same capture session for logging to a seperate DB.

    Nice thought, if Adobe listens…

We have a workstation built around the Blackmagic design HD card with an external breakout unit from the same company.

Great value, great product, but not sure how it compares in terms of price to the Axio.

    Mike,

    Thanks for your reply.

I updated the video drivers recently.
My graphics card is an Nvidia 5700.
Any idead if the card could be the issue ?

I solved the audio plugin problem and Premiere crashes a lot less.
Now just the playback issues and we’re in the green !

Again, thanks a lot for your help !

    Michael,

Thank for not being upset about my somewhat nasty reply.
But I’m in deep sh*t right because I’m trying all kinds of thing for 3 days now and going slightly mad over it.

You and Tony are right, an image speaks for a thousand word (how could I be so stupid?)

Here is a frame from the animation and you can see that the transparency is not quite right.
If I change modes and play with the opacity, the video frames look dull

    Any ideas ?

Thank you for your patience and understanding guys!
