Just installed the second GTX980 and Resolve shows a big performance boost. All my monitors (3) are in Card 1, and card 2 is just for graphics acceleration. The quadro driver had a better interface, but as I’m using the GTX, I only have the “game” driver. Lost the performance graph, showing real time GPU usage for each card.

No “Mercury playback” with the Quadro and GTX card, the drivers must be conflicting, so I decided to get the second GTX980 now. It’s on order, so hopefully my system will be full tuned with the second GTX.

I bought a used, X5680 and overclocked it to just under 4G/HZ, and doubled my ram. After configuring the system, it’s working very well and I’ll put off an X99 board upgrade for a year or so.

The new card, GTX980, does speed up the timeline and I have it set to full resolution. I think the Quadro driver is too old to work well with the GTX driver so I decided to get a second GTX980 and pull the quadro from my system. Resolve works best with matched cards anyway. Stability has not been an issue.

I left the Quadro driver alone and installed the latest driver for the GTX980 from Nvidia’s site, seems to be working well, so far. Eventually I’ll get a second GTX980, as this works better for Resolve, to have matched cards.

Just installed the GTX980 today (EVGA brand) I did notice a bump in time line playback in Resolve 11 and Vegas 13, not a lot though!
No rendering tests yet as I just got it configured and fortunately Resolve and Vegas saw it right away. Not having 2 identical cards in Resolve is limiting as now on of the shared compute options is gone. Both my Q4K’s shared CPU acceleration, now only the Q4k does, as it’s set up for my main display, the GTX980 is listed but I no longer have the option for using both cards for that one operation.
Vegas shows the GTX980, nice to have a bit better timeline playback, I’ll check rendering between the two cards later.

I am running Win7/64 Pro, and will be for another year at least. Updating the OS is always a nightmare and I want to be 1~2 yeas behind the “bleeding edge” so the bugs are worked out.

Use Black magic design’s “speed test” software to see how fast your throughput is. If you are only reading from on disk, you are unlikely getting full HD throughput, you may need to use a RAID 0, with 2 or more drives to speed things up.

November 9, 2014 at 1:04 am in reply to: Different Cameras Used In Production – Trouble Color CorrectingShooting charts doe not “solve” mixed lighting, but it does make it easier to get a “normal” picture, or at least to match cameras better than doing it by eye. The physical location where you shoot a chart is important as that is now your reference, so be careful where you put the chart in a mixed lighting set.
If the mixed lighting is an effect, shoot the chart either with 3200K or 5500K lighting so you don’t balance out the effects. As always, do tests first so you do not have to “fix it in post.”

This forum is also a great way to get advice, before you shoot, to try and head off issues with post later!
Good luck with the cut, we have all been there.
Cheers,
