If you precompose the layer, and turn on the collapse transformation switch, you shouldn’t lose reolution. Or if you like Nuke better, it doesn’t lose resolution for anything like that, as it runs on nodes.

  • I had this same problem for a little while, when I first switched to using Mac but I have found a great way to work around. By default when I hooked up my monitor it was set to use the Adobe RGB colors, so I went to preferences, then display, then the color tab and instead changed it to use the Apple RGB. I use safari and quicktime for everything that I do so this is a perfect work around for me. Of course there are a whole crap load of color presets to use inside of the system preferences menu, so I might recommend playing around with some of those.

  • The way that I would do it is to closely model they area of the head where you need the tatto to be. Then put a material on the model to match it. Go back into after effects and put the model bakc on using the tracked footage then change the blending mode to something like overlay, and possibly do something with some inner shadows.

To get the model you would need to have the model annimated in a 3D program and to do this you would need to first track the head with the 3D camera tracker then export the scene to the 3D program. To do this you would need to gogole the AE 2 3D script.

If this seems complicated you might try just puling a 2D track, compositing the tatto agian with maybe an overlay blending mode. Then use some of the different ditortion effects to make it look like it is stuck when the head turns.

Also there are a couple of good tutorials by Andrew Kramer that might be a little bit helpful:
