Is 25.000 UFF (as shown in Ann Bens’ screen shot) the same as 50i?

    Mark,

Thank you, wow, that spreadsheet link is an amazing resource, although alas it is not clear which one can match a 5D III.

Also thanks for your compliment on my Boston video!

    All the Best,
    Lynn

  • Hi, Evan,

Did you ever get or figure out an answer to your question?:

[I’ve got a job coming up where the client wants to try and use my PMW-200 and Canon 5d MK 3 as A/B cameras. I own Doug Jensen’s CD and my question is, is the profile to which you refer, his “Natural” setting?”]

I have the same question about using my Sony PMW-200 with Canon 5D III! Thanks.

Hi, I am looking to buy a used EX1R + big batteries, charger, 32GB cards. Is anyone out there selling one?

    Thanks!

  • Joe,

Thanks! I took a deep breath and reformatted 2 cards with my with the 5D Mark III:
    – a Sandisk 60 Mb/sec 32GB CF card (previously used with my Sony Z7U, and
    – a Sandisk 95 Mb/sec 32GB Class 10 SD card (previously used with Canon T4i).

All worked just peachy! Here was my workflow, fyi.

I shot in 1920/24/IPB for over an hour (2 rounds of just under 30 minutes).

I then uploaded the CF footage (though I have not uploaded the SD card) to my Mac external drive, transcoded with MPEG Streamclip to 100% Quality Apple ProRes 422 (1920×1080 unscaled, with the ‘Interlaced Scaling’ box un-checked), and edited a little in FCP7 (in a ProRes Timeline). I even then mixed with some 24p footage from my Sony Z7U, as a test.

    Awesome!

    Lynn

Hmmm, Flanders Scientific 7″ LM-0750W is only 800×480 – see tech specs on the upper right. $1,995 seems like a lot for such low resolution for an HD monitor. Am I missing something?

September 23, 2011 at 5:00 pm in reply to: HDV to Prores from CF card: 1080i60, 24p, 30p

    Thanks, Bill,

I like ClipWrap for the price ($50) but it has a few quirks when transcoding my HDV footage from a Compact Flash (=CF) card:

    1) Audio converts in ClipWrap only to 24-bit, not 16-bit

    2) ClipWrap Transcodes from HDV to ProRes as 1440×1080 – not 1920×1080, which is what I get it I capture from HDV tape to ProRes.

    3) Before your use ClipWrap, you need to
    a) Copy your footage folder from your CF card to your hard drive(you can put it in your Final Cut Capture folder, to save time)
    b) Then change the clip names so they are sequential for the clips. This allows ClipWare to merge clips that should be connected seamlessly as a single clip, without timecode drops/breaks: thatname01.m2t, thatname02.m2t, thatname03.m2t, etc.

    Thanks!

September 15, 2011 at 2:18 pm in reply to: HDV to Prores from CF card: 1080i60, 24p, 30p

Thanks. I just used the ClipWrap trial. The ProRes transcode looks good. But, as confirmed by ClipWrap’s tech support this morning, ClipWrap gives you only 24-bit audio, but not 16-bit audio:

“ClipWrap always outputs 24bit audio in the current version, to avoid aliasing issues when coming out of AC3.”

So…how can I get 16-bit audio on the ProRes files, without using Compressor?

    I ask because:

    1) I confess that I’m not used to using 24-bit in FCP, though I did change Audio to 24-bit in the “Sequence/Settings…” menu. Not sure if I have to make adjustments for 24-bit when outputting the footage to Compressor for DVD, or when exporting to QT conversion for web, if there are any other 24-bit considerations, etc.

    2) If I mix with this 24-bit footage with footage with 16-bit audio, how will this work in the FCP ProRes timeline? It seems I’d need to use compressor at some point to make the sound-bit compatible.

The whole point is that I am trying to ingest HDV as ProRes (via CF cards), and trying to avoid importing as HDV and then having to use Compressor to go Prores.

Any advice for the 24-bit-challenged? Are you editing in FCP and outputting to DVD/web?

September 13, 2010 at 3:18 pm in reply to: Audio and video not in sync after compression

I exported to MPEG4/H.264 from ProRes footage using Quicktime Conversion (in Final Cut 6 Export menu) for a client who posts to YouTube. The audio sync was way off when I viewed the MP4 in Quicktime Player 7.6.6. But strangely enough — and fortunately — the sound and video are in perfect sync when you view these same MP4 clips uploaded on YouTube!

Go figure. Video is really a weird business, not always wysiwyg (what you see is what you get)!

Anyway, the .MP4s worked for your YouTube purposes. So I think for some reason Quicktime Player was not properly playing the .MP4s.

Try a test (like I did); export your MP4 from 10-15 seconds of your footage and then upload to YouTube; hopefully the sound will be in sync!
