Hi Ron,
FCP5 has a lot of nice new features over FCP 4.5. I’m not aware of Apple providing any official support for FCP 4.5 under Tiger and we are no longer updating our drivers for Panther. So if you are going to run an older system, please use Mac OS X 10.3.8, FCP 4.5, QT 6.5.2 and DeckLink 4.8.1r2 drivers.
If you are running Tiger, then I would suggest you run the latest updates for Tiger, FCP5, QT and DeckLink drivers.

Hi John,
If your model of DeckLink card supports component analog output, and if your JVC monitor supports component analog input, try connecting via component analog and see if the problem continues or goes away. This will help to narrow down the problem somewhat.

I’ve split this question in to a seperate sub-thread to make it easier to keep track of your two problems. I shall schedule this problem for testing and will let you know as soon as we have succeeded or failed in replicating the problem and work out what to do then.

This problem is an odd one for several reasons:
1. Our AES audio output is de-embedded from the SDI output. So if the SDI audio had a problem, then the AES audio should have a problem. However you have reported that the AES audio output to the deck works fine. This suggests and issue with how the deck is handling SDI embedded audio.
2. You have mentioned that this problem only affects the Panasonic DVCPRO HD AJ-HD150 deck and does not affect other decks such as your Sony decks.
3. Other Cow reports have mentioned a problem with the way the AJ-HD150 handles SDI-embedded audio, eg Embedded audio input limitation on Panasonic AJ-HD150.I suspect this is going to be one of those situations where some hardware will work with it and some won’t based upon customer reports and those found on the Internet. Other DVCPRO HD models of decks appear to have no similar audio problems. Can you please check with Panasonic to see if there is a firmware/software update available for your model of deck as these can often solve tricky problems. Please let me know how you go.

FCP is working on the Xserve? This surprises me as the last time we tested FCP5 with an Xserve, we found that FCP still required an AGP graphics card and so could not be used in an Xserve G5. The previous Xserve G4 featured an unusual, combination PCI/AGP slot which made it possible to run Final Cut Pro 4 (and newer) if an AGP graphics card was installed. However the G4 processor and PCI-66 MHz slots meant that it could not be used in HD with our DeckLink HD cards. These details are documented in a support note named Can I use a DeckLink card in an Apple Xserve?.
Based upon your report, it sounds as though a newer version of FCP5 enables the use of an Xserve G5 with a PCI-X graphics card or perhaps without any card at all.
Can you tell me if you have installed a graphics card in addition to the DeckLink HD card? If so, what kind of PCI or PCI-X graphics card are you using and at what speed does it run?
The two PCI-X slots in the Xserve G5 share the same PCI-X bus at 100 MHz. If you have installed a 33 or 66 MHz PCI card in to one slot, then the DeckLink HD card will also be slowed to this speed which will disble its HD functionality. It will still work for SD. I suspect this is the problem you have encountered but would be very interested to learn what other card you might or might not have installed in the other slot.

I’m sorry for the long delay as our test suite was extremely busy, towards the end of last year, with Multibridge Extreme. It’s still busy with the other new PCIe cards but it’s not as busy as it was.
We have tested your problem with Decklink 5.1.2, 5.2.2 & 5.3.1 drivers without encountering a problem. We were able to capture & playback both BMD DV clips & standard Microsoft DV clips & Uncompressed 8-Bit without a glitch or any need to render.
Are you still encountering this problem? I’m not aware of any similar reports.
