I know… I’m late on this one… But just got a new Blackmagic camera (BMMCC) and the link you posted saved me for becoming insane.
    Thank you!

Thank you Joe. The settings on the camera are fine. Highest possible quality, highest resolution, etc… As I do
with video cameras I lowered saturation, contrast and sharpness. The problem I have is that once the processed and post-processed sequence is ready to be exported, the results are not really as expected. I know I cannot compare to a video camera. I tried different settings when it comes to “export media” (vimeo various settings, plain vanilla 1080p, played with VBR 2 pass, depth, etc…) but the best I can obtain is not satisfying. Average quality. Maybe I am expecting too much from a basically photographic camera shooting video. I uploaded a file with the used settings giving me the “best” results I can obtain:

    Thanks Michael.
“timecode through HDMI if the cameras timecode is set to record run” didn’t work.
The NX5U can’t trigger the Ninja 2 unlike, for example, the FS100. It seems that flags in ancillary data from HDMI or SDI are necessary. And the Ninja 2 doesn’t have an SDI connection. Choosing Timecode and Record Run allows to start recording directly from the Ninja 2. But it doesn’t trigger the recording on the NX5U. I have to also start the recording on the camera. If I don’t, The Ninja 2 records, but I don’t have a backup on SD cards or on my FMU.

  • It seems it really boils down to Mountain Lion qualifying the AVCHD file as a file instead of a folder. I did a simple test; I put an SD card in my card reader, then renamed AVCHD using any name (I used a), and it became a folder with the file BDMV, which I renamed b, and it became a folder with all the files we’re looking for inside.
Still not a ‘the’ solution, but we may tell that to Apple, and it should be an easy fix to implement for these bright guys…

  • “I just updated to Mountain Lion and have found that it DOES NOT allow you to copy info from an SD card (ex. AVCHD media)”

It may depend on the origin of the file (?). I just uploaded some files from an SD card, shot with a Sony NX5U. Mountain Lion shows one file named PRIVATE. But right-clicking on it and and choosing Show Package Contents gives a choice between a file names AVCHD and a folder named SONY. Again right-click on AVCHD, Show Packages Contents brings a file named BDMV. Right click and Show Package Contents bring a series of files and folders, and this time no need to right click again. The last folder on the list is STREAM, and the mts files are in there. Drag and drop to copy.
But again, it’s not acceptable, since they’re already at 10.8.1, and it’s really a waste of time to have to right-click on files to finally been able to transfer files x-time the number of cards.
