  • [Shane Ross] “If your project is 59.94i (29.97 interlaced) then pulldown will be added to the 23.98 footage to make it into smooth 30fps (like what happens when TV shows shoot film at 24fps, but have it transferred to data files at 29.97). Premiere will add the pulldown.

If the project/sequence is 30p…well, then 6 duplicate frames will happen in the footage and it will look slightly stuttery. Just a little. Nothing can be done about this…progressive to progressive frame rate conversions always just double up on a few frames.”

Yes this makes the most sense thanks!

    Hi Glenn,

Sorry I’ll rephrase. There were a number of issues. The video was according to the QuickTime movie inspector 23.98 so I set the project to this. When I brought in the video and put a timecode filler on a new video track it came up with timecode plus letters at the end.

This wasn’t regular timecode but I figured it was related to bringing in the video at the wrong framerate. When I changed the project to 30 fps the letters at the end of the timecode disappeared. I read somewhere it was to do with cadence pill down of the frame. Similarly the 00:00:00:00 starter disappeared when I made a new project.

Thankfully it’s all fixed and ready for Pro Tools!

    Hi Glenn

Yes they are imported files. How would I go about making new link versions of those files and relinking the sequence to the new links? I can do it easily with AMA linked files but I’m not sure with imported files etc.

It was shot at 30fps and after AMA linking and transcoding I put it into a 1280×720 30fps project. It seems to only stutter when I bring in the bin from the original project with transcoded footage. The transcoded footage in the original project plays fine.

Hey so I have a new issue which I didn’t realize before until delving deep into the clips. After transcoding them (I’ve tried DNxHR and Pro Res) the footage stutters in the source and timeline window. When I export them the stutter is still the same.

I’ve tried that but it says: “Warning: No clips in the sequence were found to have resolutions supported for Same As Source QuickTime export. According to Media Creation Settings (Render tab), the sequence will be exported as: Custom, DNxHR LB, rather than Same As Source.”

Hi just a quick question! The footage is in DNxHR right now but how do I export it with the highest settings possible?

Hey thanks all the advice worked like a dream. I was only given the option of DNxHR and I had to sacrifice a portion of the frame when letter boxing and zooming in, but it does work really well.

Yeah it’s a very strange format. Quicktime Movie Inspector says:

    Format: H.264, 1080 x 720
    AAC, 44100 Hz, Mono
    FPS: 30

I’m running Avid 8.5.3 but I want it to not look squished as it currently does. Eventually I’ll be putting the video on YouTube.
