    Thanks for the advice. Any idea what versions broke and subsequently fixed the reference mov’s.

    I’m only slightly confused that neither FCP or Quicktime can play the SD m2v file which the mov points to even with the Apple MPEG-2 component installed.

    Maybe you’ve already tried this!

    go to the final cut menu > System Settings > check the section marked “Limit Capture/Export File Segment Size To”, this defaults to 2000MB.
