  • IMX Omneon files not working in FCP 6.x

Posted by David Tait on March 12, 2009 at 11:42 pm

I am having a problem with IMX Omneon files in FCP (Quicktime self-contained and quicktime reference container formats)

    • I encode/ingest files on an Omneon media port in IMX50 and IMX30 and these files will not import properly into FCP. I can get the audio to play but no video.
    • When I try to render the timeline I get a ‘codec error’.
    • I have no problem with IMX files from other sources, it’s just the Omneon files. The Omneon plays FCP exported IMX files no problem.

I am using a Kona LSe card, if that is a consideration or has any affect on codecs.
Any insights are appreciated, Transcoding these files seems like such a waste of time when the files are supposed to work natively!

Please check if you are using the latest 1.3.1 IMX codec from Apple.

In addition you can try our MXF import solution. We have many customers using the MXF eVTR configuration with FCP and you can also edit MXF files while they are being recorded – without a pre-defined duration and without using reference movies.

Thank for your response, I tried MXF4Mac with eVTR and it works, but I can’t really use that format in our plant at this time. We have tons of material already in QT reference format. I was hoping to digitize in QT self or reference. I do like the benefits of MXF, but at this time it might be hard to make a leap to this new format. I still think our Mac installs are messed up in some way. I will check the codec, but I am pretty sure we are all up to date.

    David,

Did you ever find a solution to this issue. Having what looks like a very similar problem?

    Thanks
    Louis

Check your Omneon firmware and configuration. Older versions created MOV files with wrong codec description (MPEG instead IMX).

Our company might be able to repair them.

    Bjoern,

Thanks for the advice. Any idea what versions broke and subsequently fixed the reference mov’s.

I’m only slightly confused that neither FCP or Quicktime can play the SD m2v file which the mov points to even with the Apple MPEG-2 component installed.

    Cheers
    Louis

    I don’t know, but we are meanwhile a 6.x.
