I wonder what would happen if you created a new library with nothing in it, then in the finder right click it, show package contents, and replace the .fcpproject. It might work?

Thank you. That’s how I normally do it, it just seems like there could be a better way, like what is built in to the color board effect.

This sort of sounds like render issues I get sometimes. I remember when FCPX first came out, one of the first things I love over the old version was how good it was at keeping render files which cut way down on render times. But then it turned out to be a little too efficient, sometimes playing the old rendered version instead of reflecting the changes I had just made.

I bet if you delete your project render files next time this happens, it’ll clear it up.

  • 1) Select your project in the library, and open the inspector (command-4). Click modify settings and check your render settings.

    2) When the Event is in focus you can use keyboard shortcuts: shift-1 = Video + Audio | shift-2 = Video Only | shift-3 = Audio Only.

    3) The inspector stays on the main monitor. You can only move the viewer or the timeline to the other monitor.

    4) Since you are moving all of your media and cache to the same hard drive as the library, in nearly the same location, why not just let FCPX move everything into the library? But yes, your way will work to keep everything contained on one drive, making it portable.

It seems like a lot of work to transcode to proresLT before you start your project. Personally I would prefer to import everything in its native format, let FCPX transcode to proxy, switch to proxy mode, then switch back to normal mode and let FCPX render out from the source media. The advantage is you can start working right away instead of waiting for everything to transcode. The proxies won’t be available immediately, but once they finish churning in the background and you switch over you’ll get a big performance boost.

  • My tapes do go until the end, however even when I manually stop it I lose the last piece. I’m trying iMovie now.

  • Something to consider:

No matter the size of the screen, the projector may only be able to play back 720.

An advantage of using a 720 project with 1080 footage is you now have an opportunity to recompose your 1080 shots without losing quality.

That’s a fine workaround for now, but I’m still wondering if their might be away.

It seems like this entry in the preferences plist might be useful:
    FFEventLibraryModule.FFEventSidebarModule.selectedItems

And it references what looks like a sample library here:
    x-fcproj://localhost/

But that’s as far as I could go with that.

Except it won’t reconnect the proxy media. Aaargh, so close.
