i am hoping to shoot 1080i50 PAL the reason being that i already have 20 hours of footage shot with an HDV camera at those settings – the remaining 50-75% of filming will be done on some sort of higher level of HD format (i.e. P2 / or XDCAM).

I want to know if it makes sense to remain the entire edit in an HDV 1080i 50 timeline in FCP and then with final locked sequence media manage to pro res ntsc or take to a good post house for trasncoding for delivery of multiple formats (hd cam, digi, dvd, etc) this is for festivals and broadcast.

your thoughts any others would be greatly appreciated in that i am new to this workflow as well as the longer format documentary format in general.

  • I dot not understand.
Also i now realize that when i looked at the exported quicktime movie from the timeline it is actually 1920×1080 – i forgot that it redas differenclt within fcp for that codec / resoltuion

anymore advice with more exact details?

    thank you

  • so will 20 hours of footage and an eventual 90 minute sequence when its locked, what will be the best / fastest most efficient wait to adjust the audio accordingly for delivery?

thank you all for your responses you guys rock!

  • oh so i pan the left mono 1 to the left and the moni 2 channel to the right? but with all of these clips thats alot and is why i asked if there was a better way to do this or by converting them all to stereo.

    thoughts?

  • its all interviews pretty much, yes 2 discreet mono channels indeed

so but hoping to get some more info about the differences and why if at all i would switch it to stereo pair – also how would one go about making this change if at all?

    thanks

  • where do i get this tutorial??

  • Hey that’s very helpful thank you.

    I am still a little confused however…

    1) would i only up res the final locked edit/s and if so how do i go about doing this? I assume the whole point is that i dont waste time making ALL the footage that’s hdv into pro res but instead only do the sequence/s which need to be output for tape / dvd.

    2) How do i include the DV and yet to be shot HD footage into the PAL HDV time line properly – and what considerations should I keep in mind.

    3) what other workflow considerations should i keep in mind for this work flow.

    thank you

Hey thanks for the response – i am just curious how do i go about exporting and importing – i have done this process before.
    thanks
    Lisa

  • so do i copy the entire sequence from the 720 p timeline and paste it into the uncompressed 1920×1080 timeline and then render – also switching fields to none?
    thanks so much
