i am hoping to shoot 1080i50 PAL the reason being that i already have 20 hours of footage shot with an HDV camera at those settings – the remaining 50-75% of filming will be done on some sort of higher level of HD format (i.e. P2 / or XDCAM).
I want to know if it makes sense to remain the entire edit in an HDV 1080i 50 timeline in FCP and then with final locked sequence media manage to pro res ntsc or take to a good post house for trasncoding for delivery of multiple formats (hd cam, digi, dvd, etc) this is for festivals and broadcast.
your thoughts any others would be greatly appreciated in that i am new to this workflow as well as the longer format documentary format in general.
best

July 1, 2008 at 11:21 pm in reply to: HDV / Pro Res Documentary – In need of some strong tech adviceHey that’s very helpful thank you.
I am still a little confused however…
1) would i only up res the final locked edit/s and if so how do i go about doing this? I assume the whole point is that i dont waste time making ALL the footage that’s hdv into pro res but instead only do the sequence/s which need to be output for tape / dvd.
2) How do i include the DV and yet to be shot HD footage into the PAL HDV time line properly – and what considerations should I keep in mind.
3) what other workflow considerations should i keep in mind for this work flow.
thank you
