Well, it is FCSTUDIO so it is 5.1

I think I only use 2GB of RAM because that is what FCP shows me in system preferences under Memory tab. Also, I understand that I need fast disks and I do have it so actually I don’t have problems with FCP at all, it works fine, but I thought I could get extra benefits after I added 14GB of extra RAM, so I don’t right?

Thanks for info, but still another question :*)

So is Blackmagic 10 bit RGB mean that it is uncompressed 10 bit 4:4:4?

If so, will decklink HD pro with dual link make any difference for me in terms of working in real time of uncompressed 10 bit 4:4:4 or is it just for capturing and writing only? Meaning that does it have any render acelleration?

Sorry if these are stupid questions.

    Great Link, thanks,

Now I understand, but everything now leads me to one question, please answer if you can.

In FCP, in my sequence setting, I use apple’s uncompressed codec, and when I use 8 bit, everything is fine, in terms of real time. With 8 bit uncompressed 4:2:2, on the timeline when I open RT menue, I have all the options like Dynamic frame rates and Dynamic Quality, but as soon as I change that to 10 bits, the menue in RT desappears and only option I have there is to Play Base Layer Only or not to Play Base Layer Only. Does this mean that FCP can not work in real time with 10bit uncompressed?

Also a question about Blackmagic 10 bit RGB, why shouldn’t I use this codec, if with 10bit uncompressed 4:2:2 I still don’t get RT, this makes no sense, or it does? And also, I wonder, if I had Blackmagic HD Pro dual link, would that make difference in terms of RT? or is it just for capturing purposes?

Theo, Thank you for confirming, now I know that I have the Decklink card pluged in correctly, but here is another question, I have posted it separately, but nobody replied.

When in sequence setting (in final cut) I use blackmagic in compressor (quicktime video settings), in my RT extreme menu, all the setting disappear, I only get option “Play base layer only”. and as I understand this means that I don’t get the real time in Final Cut Pro. So why is that?

And also can you tell me difference between:
Blackmagic 10 bit (DV10) and Blackmagic RGB 10 bit
    or
    Blackmagic 8 bit (2Vuy) and 8 bit (DV00)

is blackmagic RGB 10 bit better than uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2? Please consider, that I shoot on 35mm film, than telecine it at 1920X1080 resolution, and after editing I sometimes print back to film. So is blackmagic good codec for using this way?

Oh, and I have blackmagic HD pro (single link).

Sorry for being so picky, I just want to make sure I do everything ok.

So if you look inside my mac there are 4 slots, the top one is 133mgz, and this is where I put my atto card, ther bottom (the last one) is for my video card, and at this moment I have my Decklink card pluged to the second slot from the top. So there is one slot betweend deckling and video card.

    Is it right?

:*) thank you for your help.

I don’t understand. I read in blackmagic design manual that decklink card must be installed in 133mghz slot, and ATTO also requires 133mghz, but my MAC has only one PCI with 133mghz, so what should I do?

  • I am still confused. So what is the baseline? Does it do real time?

The best approach is what Steve has proposed, going offline. But steve can you be more specific how can I change the file. I mean, consider my workflow, I have a targa sequence. Let’s assume I make two .mov files: one uncompressed and another DVCPRO HD. I do the editing on DVCPRO HD file, and once I am finished, how can I replace it with the uncompressed one? Should I just rename the file or is there a finer way of doing it?

You asked what setting did I use? I tried so many things, I can’t even tell you what I tried and not, it would be better if you can tell me what settings to use, but I don’t want to compromise on quality. Any suggestions?
