16GB is MORE than enough. A bit overkill really. I edit uncompressed HD and only have 3.5GB Others have 6-8GB. What you can do with what you have is have FCP, Motion, Shake and Safari open all at once…all rendering or doing something.

What you also need are high speed drives. SATA Raid or Fibrechannel.

[Levan Bakhia] “I have 16GB of Ram on quad G5, and FCP is using only 2? right? is that maximum? Do I need more? I do uncompressed HD editing.”

FCP only uses 2-4GB RAM total. I edit uncompressed HD with 3 and 4GB RAM installed in our machines. As Shane says, uncompressed HD comes down to very fast drives.

Well, it is FCSTUDIO so it is 5.1

I think I only use 2GB of RAM because that is what FCP shows me in system preferences under Memory tab. Also, I understand that I need fast disks and I do have it so actually I don’t have problems with FCP at all, it works fine, but I thought I could get extra benefits after I added 14GB of extra RAM, so I don’t right?
