That is a very intricate design. Definitely not live trace material. Looks like a combination of brushes and pen work.

I meant to say “post a pic of your MASK”…

    (don’t know why can’t I edit my own post…)

If you want to make a clean path, learn how to use the pen tool and forget about using live trace. That will never give correct results and you will end up with a gazillion of extra, un-needed anchors.

You can also post a pic of your wanna be path, since without seeing anything it’s hard to pinpoint what are you doing wrong.

AI comes with a lot of art brushes that can create similar results. You might need to do a little modification to them, but chances are you will not find an exact look unless you create your own.

Ok, well, I’ve not converted an older AI file to CS4 with a type on a path. Maybe there IS something wrong at the conversion side. Could be a bug.

  • Well, I created 3 PNGS, all of them according to your spec(22″ x 9″ @300)

    1. Using File > Export (PNG). This does not allow to specify exporting alpha channels (grayed out).

    2. Using File > Save for Web. I saved the file as transparent 8bit PNG.

    3. Using File > Save for Web. I saved the file as transparent 24bit PNG.

In all cases illustrator imported the linked files without any problems.

Are you having a hangover? Freehand died like 208 years ago. It has nothing to do with Illustrator. If you are having issues with upgrades you should be asking Adobe, and not a third party forum.

Try deleting your preferences file, then restart AI.
