  • Just to update anyone who may be stuck with this problem. It turned out that this didn’t work for all parts, the only success was to:
    export SD version from FCP
    then
    export as SD from compressor.

This was my original question & I tried to find alternatives to save the quality but to no avail. thanks

  • Right. After a lot of trail and error. Ive re-named it something entirely different, highlighted the ‘Dolby Digital ac3’ audio file (as opposed to MPEG-2.6 .mv2 video file) just before I click submit, this seems to have done the trick. WHY this works I have no idea.
Hope this saves someone else a lot of time if they ever have the same pridiciment.

  • spoke to soon, its still jaggedy. I’d avoiding going back to FCP as ‘recompres’ export takes hours. I don’t think this will help as it exports fine in compressor as hd. no jaggy edges. It just seems to be when i click Mpeg2.
    cheers

  • I’ve changed ‘field dom’ to ‘progressive’ which seems to have done the trick so far.

  • Sorry, here is more info..
    Filmed on 60D 1920 × 1080 pal.
Exported from FCP 7 as QT movie, current settings, with recompress all frames, 1920 × 1080 pal.
Compressor: DVD 90mins. video format: 16×9 MPeg2. Quality: 2 pass. Ave Bit 6.4 max 7.5

  • Filmed on 60D, edited a 90min 3 camera concert. Exported from FCP as QT with ‘recompress all files’ clicked. Using Compressor to build / format in Dvd STudio Pro.

The initial problem was I was new to DSLR editing and I wasn’t aware of app pro res converting. It edited ok and played fine in fcp timeline. However, the only way I could get a clean export was by clicking ‘recompress all frames’. Long story! Anyway I am now using compressor to make sd dvd files. I have used trial and error and the only dvd setting (without jaggedy lines) seems to be ‘h.264 to dvd studio pro’.

If I choose this setting and change the frame size to 720×576 16 pal, will studio pro accept it as though it was sd. It needs to be good quality as it’s being mass produced.

I’m hoping theres a simple answer, I can’t seem to find a similar situation on the help forums as it’s quite specific.

    Thanks again

Ok thanks. I am ok for storage, I thought the computer prefers smaller files, this is the only reason I was opting for 9 parts. I will go for your option, as your right ‘send to’ doesn’t seem to be doing much.

Great Thanks Dave. I have used ‘send to compressor’ option from FCP. Ive broken it into 9 sections so I can send each separately to keep file sizes down. From compressor I am creating both SD dvd files & HD for safety!
    Thanks again.

  • I discovered the problem! At this time I was new to DSLR editing in FCP. I wasn’t aware that all footage had to be converted! The new problem i have now is that I have edited a 3 camera 90min concert and I it will only export ok with QT conversion. (It plays fine from FC timeline).

    The 2 questions are:

    1. Does Compressor dvd export override apple pro res or will it cause playback sticking issues?

    2. Would I loose quality if I export as SD from Final cut and then through compressor as SD for studio pro. Or Should I export as HD from FC and then downgrade to SD from Compressor.

I hope someone can help shed some light, as the release is fast approaching.

    Cheers

  • Hi thanks for your reply,
Raw footage settings: 1920×1080 H.264, Linear PCM.
Timeline settings: Frame size 1920×1080 HDTV 1080i (16:9)

The footage hast been transcoded into apple pro res, I have simply used the raw files which I downloaded from the SD cards. I have no dropped frames of pixellation during the edit, the problem only occurs on the quicktime movie export.

    Thanks
