If you need to re track a shot every time you make an edit it’s not the way to go. You are wasting time. It’s ok that for a Flame, After effects, Smoke. The main reason we use a NLE is to edit, so if you loose what you already has done every time you edit, something is wrong.

Of course Apple is doing marketing, but not only marketing, the had done a very powerful software too.

Adobe and Avid does the same with the “one time offer” because they are going to charge you a lot with every upgrade later.

I think the intention of the videos is to show things to people are saying FCPX is not good without ever trying it (since it’s a new way of thinking, you have to learn it. It’s not enough to launch the software and doing some clicks with the mouse to decide).

You are wrong. Match Color from FCPX analyzes whole clips and then match color based on the clip data, not the frame data. That makes a huge difference. (By the way, MC doesn’t have march color almost from since one).

Synchs Looks is not the same. If you sync lock tracks and then you do a ripple edit you are “auto adding edit” splitting clips. Working in TV spots I’ve had to handle dialogue tracks with tons of sound design clips, plus ambient sound and music. Since TV spots’s shots don’t usually have a duration of more than a couple of seconds, you usually work with complicated timelines. Synch Look is not a solution when you are constantly trimming or changing the order of shots with eight audio tracks which overlap with surrounding shots. That’s even worst when you need to work with alternative shots (with audio) in the same timeline.

Media Composer has the Stabilize effect, wich works great.

But you have to analyze in foreground the clip, and what happens if you later trim it?

If you compare those things in a specs table they may seem the same, but is not.

You are cheating:

Firmware is not like buying FCPX. It’s like an update.
You can choose or not to buy a new Canon body.

FCPX didn’t anything to you. FCP7 still works. You cannot open (yet) projects from FCP7 in FCPX, but you have the choice to go FCPX or not.

Yes, I am a pro editor too. I worked on three commercials for top brands in the last month and I did it on FCP7 with the same good and bad as before.

I am waiting for the update not because I want to give time to Apple, but because I tried to cut projects on FCPX (at home, the same project, but just as an exercise) and I loved FPCX editing speed and interface.

If you look ahead, not for the next two months, but for the not so short term, FCPX is a good way to go. Not today, not tomorrow, but maybe in a few months. Don’t let the anger blinds you about the good things.

Take a look at Canon.
Canon updates:

– Consumer cameras every two months.
– Rebel cameras every year or year and a half
– 40D->50D->60 every two years
– 5D every three years
– 1D every three or more years

Does that mean Canon is dropping the pro line? Not any chance.
Apple has made a major overhaul on FCPX. They had made a mess with the way they comunicated but the software is very powerful. It needs updates, but they are coming.

Actually I want to do it from two cameras, so I need two different sources.
My workaround was to use two clips in FCPX, one with a left effect and another with the rigth effect. The top one with “Add” in the transfer mode of the clip. This way It works, but you have to apply two FX and set the transfer mode in one clip.
The idea was to solve using only one fx.

Maybe it’s not possible 🙁

I tried that, but I don’t know why the clip from the drop zone doesn’t play as expected.
If I drop the same clip I have in the timeline to the drop zone, they doesn’t match.
Perhaps it’s related to the effect duration. I am not sure.
I am trying to do a anaglyph effect, so I need two sources.

One workaround is to have two effects, one for the storyline and another one for the connected clip, but I have to set the “Add” transfer mode manually becouse I can’t get it from the motion effect.

Nope. It’t the idea behind FCXP.

A workaround is to add a one frame black gap at the beginning of the project and connect the music track there. I always do that because I don’t want the project to start in the very first frame, but with a black one.
