Just remember, Sony bought out Fast Electronics Video Machine and put it on a shelf. Oh yeah, their Espree system looked similar to Video Machine, but less capabilities and a higher price.
That’s not correct. FAST Electronics was purchased by Pinnacle, which was later acquired by Avid. Sony worked with FAST on the EditStation ES-3, which was a hardware/software NLE based on the FAST 601 UI. The ES-3 offered a DV and uncompressed SD workflow; the 601 offered MPEG2 50 Mbps and uncompressed. The Video Machine was an earlier NLE from FAST, pre-dating the ES-3 and the 601. The XPRI system (not Espree) had nothing to do with FAST Electronics, but some have commented that a few of the visuals/icons in the UI looked similar.
