I just saw on the BMagic forum (looked there after posting this) that there is 2.5 beta software update available where the HyperDecks will write the DNxHD codec in a QTime wrapper. It said you will be able to import that into most all QuickTime programs. Looks like this may be the ticket.

Exactly… and thats my point. If the file was in the correct aspect ratio, you shouldn’t have to check the box. When I drop a file into a new sequence it asks if you would like the sequence to set itself to match the clip, and thats the easiest way to see what it is. If it was anamorphic, the sequence should set itself up that way. Oh well, I can easily change the aspect ration in the distort tab to get it lo look correct. Was just driving me crazy not being abel to see it as 16:9 after the AE export. Thanks Dave!

Interesting though that when I drop it into a FCP sequence , and let the sequence automatically set itself, it sets to 3×2, and not wide screen. That leads me to believe the QT player was displaying the aspect ratio correctly, and somethings going on in AE during the export thats causing it to not we wide screen.

Dave,
No problem with the Pro Res… I’m using FC Studio 3. As far as the 16:9, I’m dropping the wide screen footage into a 4×3 sequence before exporting so it comes out letterboxed. They wanted that look. So if you think QT player just isn’t displaying the file properly thats OK by me… I just thought it should display correctly after I export it like it does out of Final Cut. I can make sure it’s correct when I put it back into the 4×3 sequence. Thanks for your input!!

Thanks Dave. I’m wanting to export a QTime Pro Res422 file that will be sent to a network for broadcast. This is a 15 second “thanks for watching” bumper. Video was done in FCP and I imported into AE so I could use Zaxwerks 3D Invigorator on a logo. Thanks for any assistance you can provide… what seems to be such a simple thing is driving me nuts! LOL

Thank you! That did it… it turns out I needed to have the monitors under scan on for it to pick up the 16:9 aspect after I changed the setting. Looks much better, thanks again!

Hmmmm interesting. Sounds just like the problem I was having trying to capture via the S-video input. Still no reply from BlackMagic support.

No I didn’t t that, but ended up doing a bastardized capture. Went out S-vid into a DV camera. I then captured from the DV camera via FireWire. My end project is for 3×2 SD so this worked out OK, but it sure sucked getting there. And what a pain to edit. I ended up editing the program with 1 camera angle & then dumping the 2nd camera angle in after the HDV was converted to SD. Ouch.
Thanks for the input!

This tape was shot with a JVC 110U, and I’m playing it back in a Sony FX-1. I now know there is a compatibility issue between the 2. I talked to the other camera operator and he said he absolutely shot in 1080i, not 720p. When I play the tape in the Sony, it says 720p in the view finder, won’t export via FireWire, but I get a good signal out the S-Video. The S-Vid signal will be just fine for what I need, but I can’t get the Intensity Pro to capture. I need to get this out the door in a couple of days so it’s very frustrating. Have gotten NO response from BlackMagic support.
Thanks for any insight you can give on this.

I can’t remember the exact model, but it was the JVC that looks like the GY-HM700. It came out about 4- 5 years ago. I can call him and fin out.
I do get a good clean signal out via S-Video, but my Sony won’t export the signal out FireWire. Thanks… I need to get this figured out today if possible so I can get the show out the door tomorrow.
