By what format am I using, Tom, do you mean what graphic format. Currently I’m using jpeg. I can use any format that works well. As far as the resolution, you write “then usually two or three times yor format resolution is ample? ” So this means on a project for example where I am working with DVCAM images, I need to determine the resolution of a single frame and then make sure my still are 2 or 3 times the resolution of that? I can probably figure out how to determine the resolution of a still frame from a dvcam image on my timeline, but if you have a shortcut, that would be appreciated.

How are you going to do the upconversion via Teranex, hardware video card, Compressor or plug-in? THIS WILL SHOW MY LACK OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ALL OF THIS. I THOUGHT I COULD CAPTURE DVCAM INTO MY FCP. EDIT. THEN BURN A HI DEF DVD WITH FCP ACCOMPANHYING COMPRESSOR. Let’s start there because I have no idea what kind of system you have. If you have no hardware card or plug in, you might try an export to Compressor and see how it looks. LET ME TELL YOU WHAT WAS IN MY MIND AND YOU CAN EDUCATE ME. THE DSR 500 CAN GIVE ME 800 LINES. ONE THE ONE HAND, I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT HVD HI DEF IS 720 LINES, SO IF CAN USE A COMPRESSOR SETTING THAT WILL GIVE ME THE EQUIVALENT OF HVD HI DEF. ON THE OTHER HAND, I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE USEFUL TO SEE WOULD A COMPRESSOR WOULD DO TO THE 800 LINES (16:9) IF IT CONVERTED THEM TO 1080 LINES HI DEF.

THE BEST THING WOULD BE TO RUN OUT AND BUY A HI DEF 1080 CAMERA AND GO THAT ROUTE, BUT UNTIL THEN I’M WONDERING IF I CAN GET A ‘GOOD ENOUGH’ HI DEF FROM MY DSR 500 WHOSE 2/3′ CCDS AND GREAT LENS PRODUCE VERY FINE IMAGES!

    THANKS
