I am hopeful to connect with the local audio post house in town here and get a satisfactory resolution. Thank you for your tip!

Thank you Matt and Harry. It is always great to have the community respond with help!
Matt, I have been tweaking it in STP with your suggestions, results are o.k. but not perfectly clean without distorting the narrators voice. I may have to settle for what sounds the best.
Harry, I know a very generous audio post house pro here in town. His answering machine continues to take my calls! I fear he may be gone for the holiday, but I am going to keep trying.
Again thanks to both of you. I wish you a Merry Christmas and zero problems editing this holiday season!

Thank you Bob, I appreciate the response. I figured out what I did wrong with the replies from both of you. (See post above) So glad to have the community in time of need! Larry

Thanks Lu, good catch. I was laying the picture direct to the timeline and then opening up Moving Picture editor importing the same photo and then applying the effect. Bummmer….not supposed to do that! ( I re-read the instructions and realized I missed or forgot that point) Well, like so many times in editing we make a significant mistake and get to go back and start all over to fix it (insert favorite cuss word here:____ ) Now the whole sequence seems to be hosed…the good folks at Stage Tools warn that doing what I did can create “several problems” ( again, insert favorite cuss word here”_____) I will be going through the repair carefully to see if I can rescue it without a complete redo

What brand is it? Maybe the manufacturer has a web site. I use a 7″ TFT from VariZoom on my XL2 (www.varizoom.com) that works great, the battery comes with it and bottom mounts on the monitor through a threadhole. You can “stack” a second battery below the first one for longer shoots ( I highly recommend this, the single battery alone does not last long enough )

July 31, 2006 at 7:06 am in reply to: What is the best reliability online store to buy a Canon XL2?I bought two XL2’s from Samys Camera in Los Angeles. I pre-ordered them before Canon had shipped any to the U.S. back in August 2004. Samys is a premier Canon dealer, a first rate business in my book. I have purchased from their web site on several occassions without a single problem. (BTW, the XL2’s were shipped to me the day after Samys received them from Canon.) I have also done tons of business with B&H Photo/Video in New York and they are outstanding as well. Good luck!

I have recently purchased Sound FX from Digital Juice. It is a royalty free library of 10,000 sound effects. It is pretty amazing. Normal retail price is $700.00 but they were offering a special last month of $250.00. Sony just released one very similar (Windows OS only) There are several web sites out there as well. “Google” it. You will find quite a few.

Patrick,
I would bet they have not shot with an XL2. I have not used a DVX100, so I can not speak to it’s quality. I do however shoot with the XL2. I have two of them in addition to a GL2. I think the XL2 is a very fine video camera. Properly lit subjects and correct exposures, I am getting great results. The low light lumens on the XL2 is not as good as say a Sony PD170 ( Or so I hear/read, again I do not own a Sony either ) The features on the XL2 are superb, 16:9, 24P, 4 XLR audio, etc. It is a very versatile camera. Being able to exchange lenses is outstanding. The stock 20x lens is very good. At it’s price point, this is an outstanding camera. I would head out to a first rate pro video store and compare the two cameras. Hands on, side by side, is the best way to decide. Best of luck!Larry

I have been shooting my sons high school football games for two years now with the Canon XL2 ( I have a GL2 as well ). The coaching staff says it is the best footage on tape they see in our league. Most of our games are at night and I have no problems with exposure for the lighting conditions and getting a very good result. At the most I have needed was to boost the gain 3db, a minimal impact on the picture quality that no one even would notice. I shoot from the roof top photobooths normally and I mount the camera on a tripod. I use a Varizoom LCD color monitor and a lanc controller on the handle, so I can frame the shot far more accurately and following the action much more smoothly. The optical zoom range is awesome. One option I am going to purchase for next season is the Canon 3X wide angle lens. I want to get in as close as possible while still maintaining a field of view from the backfield to the safety, I think it will make a very good video shot even better. The camera is heavy for handheld shooting though. It isn’t as big (long) as a pro ENG, so the balance is not as comfortable for sustained shooting, say for sideline field views. For short term shooting there it is fine, but if you plan to spend much time “off tripod” get a shoulder mount system for it. (I believe you should do that no matter which of the cameras you mentioned that you choose from, your video will be that much better). When I chose my XL2’s last year I decided that the general consumer market wasn’t yet ready for viewing HD and therefore the demand either ( HD DVD decks, T.V.’s etc.) so I too decided to wait on the HD camera, they will get better feature wise and the price will come down. I can not speak to the results you would get with the VX 2100, have never used one. Best of luck to you.
