THanks for the suggestions, Shane. As we speak, I am looking at the DV 25 timeline being output through my new Kona LHi card. I have a 20″ Sony PVM-20L5 monitor, and am upconverting the timeline to 1080i, which the monitor can display. Have to say, I am shocked at how good it looks…

Thanks, Gary. I actually edit only part-time and my current OS and FCP versions have been absolutely rock-solid. I’ve long let go of the “update everything just because you can” philosophy. As I get older, if it ain’t broke and it’s working fine, that’s how it will stay. However, I just got a slew of Hi-Def projects come in, so it’s probably time to whimper into some major updates…

July 9, 2009 at 12:30 pm in reply to: Ultimate sample typical contract for newbiesI’m sorry… did I miss the “required dedication of hours to completion” clause? Where I, the dummy, am required to work around the clock as desired by said client – through nights, weekends, holidays, family emergencies, funerals, during personal illness or injury? Related: client is permitted, without question, to call *anytime* day or night, and expect immediate (and polite) acknowledgement and response, with no compensation for dummy’s future orthodontist treatments for extreme jaw clenching and grinding of teeth while simulating a “happy to do that for you!” tone of voice…

Yes, I have also brought in a self-contained export from FCP into Compressor, using the DVD “best quality” preset. This, too, yields “twitter” issues (we ought to add that word to our professional vocabulary). I, too, check my DVDs on a 1080p plasma and a 20″ standard definition 4:3 TV.
Guess all I want is for the DVD to look as smooth as one would expect video to look (i.e. – as it looks coming out the Kona card downconverted to standard def), without the twitchiness on pans, etc. I could, I suppose, lay off the downcoverted signal from the Kona LHe card to standard-def tape or DVD recorder, re-digitize again, and work with now-standard definition footage. Somehow there has to be a more foolproof way…

I followed Paul’s instructions, and I THINK I’m okay, but Paul stressed how very important it was to follow the release notes with the 4.1 upgrade, follow it to the letter, etc. But there are no release notes when you download the update. It’s just one file – the updater. No release notes on Boris’ web site either. Something we should know that isn’t being revealed to us?

January 10, 2007 at 3:01 pm in reply to: What can M100 Producer output through Firewire?Sorry… you did say “output to SD” dozens of times in your posts! Typo on my part… I heard the “can’t output HD” thing loud and clear earlier.

January 10, 2007 at 4:56 am in reply to: What can M100 Producer output through Firewire?Floh, you said that v11.5 also outputs HD through Firewire, in addition to Producer. So, does that mean if my HDx hardware fails, or I have to edit on location but don’t want to haul the HDx breakout box, the AD-DA converters, etc., I can stil edit and output to Firewire with Version 11.5? Do my HDx boards need to be in there at all? (trying to understand the difference between 11.5 and Producer in this regard…). Thanks!

I have an HDx system running in a G5 dual 2.5 gig machine (PCI-X), which I am considering selling. This is the version that upconverts SD to HD. Contact me off-list if you might be interested.

I have never heard of a problem going BACKWARDS with M100, and in my many-years-of-history running M100 have always been able to open previous-version projects with no problems whatsoever. I’m not on V11 yet, but I’d be extremely surprised if you upgraded to V11.5 and couldn’t open or work with V11.

I use Lucid AD and DA converters (the 9624 series). Not cheap, but clean as a whistle and completely solid.
